Dennis,
It turns out to be much easier than I thought to get the project started.
It's already begun! We're joining the current Clark-DNA project, so just to
go familytreedna.com and request a kit. When you get it, do the swab as
directed and send it back. I can't remember how much later, you'll get an
email that your results are in, and a link to your page on the
familytreedna.com web site. There's a link to any matches.
I think most of us are concerned with this side of the Atlantic, so it's
good to know that the more markers you match with someone else, the closer
your relationship in the nearer past. There are charts on the web site that
will show you the probabilities.
Looking forward to finding out your results!
Susan

Susan,
As far as I am concerned I would support any initiative that
you will provide. I know that I have a plethora of Clark DNA, but, not
the time nor the organizational skills to get the project started and
keep it running. From my stand point I don't think that I want to go for
or pay for any more than the 36 marker test. Personally, I am more
concerned (at this juncture) with this side of the Atlantic Ocean than
the other side ( which I believe to be Scotland). I have the two sons of
Elias Clark (1753-1845) James and Josiah (Elias Jr.?) that I am commited
to find. Let me know when we all can take the next step in a Northern
Clark database.

Hi,
I recently joined this board because in the course of doing Ferguson
genealogy, I've come upon what I believe to be three Clark children
living with Fergusons in Castle Creek, Broome County NY: Oliver Clark
Ferguson b. 1829; George C. Ferguson b. 1836 and Mary Jo Clark Ferguson
b. 1839. They appear on the Ferguson census from 1830-50. Oliver
claimed his father's name was Daniel, mother Hettie. I presume that the
parents died or left the children 1840. I have checked unsuccessfully
for guardianship papers in Broome and Chenango Counties NY.
There was a Joseph Clark in Triangle NY (right up the road) and a
Clark's settlement. If anyone has info on Joesph, potential deceased
parents, Clarks of these names, etc., I'd be most appreciative. I have
not found any links to Clarks in these counties nor on Ancestry and am
hoping that someone out there is looking for these kids. Besides
Fergusons, they tie to Armstrong, Lovell, Barlow.
Any leads most appreciated,
Anne
Hi Ann..
Here's the line.. I have more ancestors... Can you send me info on

Hi, Emma,
What a relief -- I would like very much to stay with this one list and keep
everything in one place. I had kind of jumped ahead of myself and assumed
that everything would have to be new, but it's good to learn that's not the
case.

Hi - Emma here.
I tend to like things in one place so have no objection to this list
including both traditional genealogy efforts and use of new tools like DNA as
well....<g>.
Whew... what a sentence.
In other words.... the whole purpose of starting this list was to help folks
working on their Clark lines in New York.
And... while I won't pretend to under stand all those DNA numbers I do
believe in using all the various tools at our disposal.
Be aware however, that should a massive discussion break lose on the pros
and cons of DNA research or an argument open up on whether or not it is "good or
nice or whatever" to use DNA, I may ask that specific argument be moved to
some of the DNA rootsweb lists that already exist..... (grin). However, that
would relate only to a discussion of DNA in general.
As for DNA and how it relates to Clarks in New York and efforts to help
folks link lines and link to one another......... forge on....<g>.
So please continue working together to help each other break down brick
walls and share information. You have been on the right track up to now....<g>.

I just wish I had a male relative to participate in the testing.

I made some inquiries about starting a new DNA project, and it was suggested that we not start a new project for Northern Clarks. Anyone who wants to can order a kit from familytreedna.com and have a male Clark be tested. Once you get your results and web page link, you can choose to join the Clark project by clicking on the blue "JOIN" icon at the top of your page.
You can also join the Clark-DNA mailing list, but I do wonder if a separate mailing list for Northern Clarks might be in order, or just continue to use the Clark-NY mailing list even for DNA matters? I don't know who would make that decision. Emma is our coordinator. Emma, can you provide some guidance?
By the way, I believe I have my spam-filter problem straightened out. Please let me know if that's not the case.

To All,
I must apologize. I think that each of you who sends mail to the list is being sent a request to authorize from my spam filter. I have added the new list name to my filter, and this does not work as it did with the old name. I'm desperately trying to find out how to get my list mail through.
In the meantime, please ignore any request to authorize that comes from me. I am going into my spam filter regularly and authorizing anyone on the list.
Thank you,
Susan
Marilynn,
At Ysearch, you can enter a search for anyone who matches your DNA test
results. If people from both projects are on Ysearch, you should be able to
find any matches.

Greetings All,
I went back and checked all the old
Clark-L@rootsweb posts that pertained to DNA. It appears that the other
Clark DNA projects are testing through www.familytreedna.com. Does
anyone know of any other large Clark DNA Projects? If not then we should
contact family tree and set up a northern Clark DNA project. From the
posts I have concluded that they cross check to see if there are any
ties between the different Clark lines (projects) .What I know about my
line which is not all inclusive is that my Clarks lived in or migrated
through:
Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania,
Ohio, Michigan, California, and Washington. Another leg also lived in
Kansas and Colorado.
