Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
After all my years of searching, I have found a direct male descendent of my Clark family and am so excited I can't get much else done. Thanks to all the Clarks who wrote and the luck of the Irish to all of you!

Dear Clark List,
I have been trying to track my Mysterious Michael Clark born about 1773 married to Mysterious Matilda ?.
Does anyone see anything that would connect to their CLARKS in the timeline below?
1. I think Michael is the Michael Clark in the 1820 Census of Aurelius, Cayuga, NY. He should have a daughter born around that time. There would be sons that are out of the house by 1835 if this is correct.
2. Michael is in Hector, Tompkins Co. NY 1822 my ancestor Susannah is born (also listed as Chimming in one record )
3. I think he is the Michael Clark in the 1823 tax roll in Middlebury, Tioga Co., PA which is Chatham county Now.
4. Michael is in Lawrenceville, Steuben Co., NY 1825 where son Daniel is born (I hear if he was north of the Railroad he was in NY and South put them in PA.)
5. He possibly is in Almond, Allegany Co, NY in the 1830 Census. It puts him in the 40-50 age bracket which would be about 7 years younger than my date of 1773. The 1840 Census of Painted post also has him younger but that is my Mikey. There would be another son in his 15-20's who could be married, working away from home or deceased by 1835.
6. He is in the 1835 Census of Starkey, Yates Co, NY. Starkey is directly across the lake from Hector where Susannah was born. There is an Eliphalet Price who lives by Michael there in Yates who is the son of Levi Price and Sarah (Sally) Clark of Walkill, Orange Co, NY. Which probably makes my Michael the one listed in Walkill Census of 1810. He shows two daughters and one son in this state Census.
7. He is the Michael Clark in Painted Post in 1840 . He also has one daughter and younger wife and one son or he has two daughters (one older) and a son. He is listed in the age range from 70-80. That would put him born 1760-1770.
8. Matilda dies 26 Jan 1846. (Record from Harold Clark)
9. Michael and Matilda's son Daniel marries Julia Ann Cummings in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania on 2 March 1846.
10. around 1847 Michael moves to Port Allegany, Mckean Co. PA\
11. 1850 Mckean Co Census, Michael is listed as family member of Daniel Clark and Julia.
12. 1860 Mckean Co Census, Michael is listed with David and Rachel Kibby family, who go to Michigan after Michael dies.
13 1864 Feb 8 in Burtville, Potter Co, PA Michael Clark dies. (Record from Harold Clark)
Does anyone have ties to this family, Michael Clark born about 1774 married Matilda 2nd wife born about 1795 Children: daughter born around 1820, Susannah Ellen born 1822, Daniel born 1825, another daughter born 1830-1835. Michael has another relation maybe possible child with a first wife named Mary born 1802 who married a Smith and then Simeon Cook.
Any help would be great !

Do you have MY George Clark in your base? If you have a ton of them you
must have George Faber Clark, 24 Oct. 1864, Utica. I don't want info on
him, just add him if you need another George.

Hi Judy..
I have a ton of George Clark(e)s in my data base from NY about that time
frame, but unconnected regarding wives and kids. Perhaps one of them is
yours...
Can you send me a descendant report of your George? or at least the names
of his kids and their date of birth?
Perhaps I can match their names with the siblings of one of the Georges
that I have in my data base..

I'm happy to see the Clark family awaken. Now I still need to find someone from MY family. I might spice it up a bit by adding mine were Irish Catholic, coming directly from Co. Mayo. They married into the Loftus line.

Hi, Sara,
According to the census, Alfred was born about 1804. The anecdotal
information gives his parents as Russel Clark and Mary Ann Dewey, both born
in CT. Alfred is said to have been born in Chenango Co., NY. His brothers
are given as George C., James Madison, Clarissa, and Aaron Dewey. This is
all possible, since a Russel Clark lives near him in Ash Co., remarried
after his wife Mary Ann died and was buried in a local cemetery. There is
also a George and James of the correct age living in the same township. I
have in my files a Clarissa, referred to in a book as the daughter of
Russel, who married Josiah Marvin Giddings, also of Ash Co. So the
circumstantial evidence is all there. However, I've never been able to
track down any primary evidence of the tie between Russel and Alfred, and I
certainly have tried! Compounding the problem is that this anecdotal
evidence gives Russel's parents as John Clark and Ann Emmons, and I've found
enough evidence that I believe that they are actually the parents of another
Russel Clark, who also lived in Ash Co., but in the town of Ashtabula rather
Cherry Valley, where the other Russel, Alfred, etc., lived. I've tried to
find alternative parents for the Russel who might be Alfred's father, but I
haven't been able to find any. I think that covers it.
There is another researcher whose Clark stopped for a while in Ash Co., then
headed west. Illinois and Michigan sound familiar, but I can't remember for
sure. She suspects that Elijah Clark and Caturah Bentley are the parents of
her Clark, Windsor Otis, but wasn't sure when I last communicated with her.
Maybe she'll jump in here. If not, I'll write her and ask.
Cherry Valley in Ashtabula Co. and Kirtland are 55 miles apart -- not far
today, but pretty far for the 1800s.
I always feel that I'm so close, yet so far away. According to the
censuses, it seems that Russel married again, a woman named Esther, and had
two sons, Russel R. and Henry A. I would very much like to here from any of
their descendents, or from any descendents of James Madison Clark or George
Clark, both of Cherry Valley, Ash Co. And if any of their descendents are
male, I'd love to compare DNA tests!

Re: DNA
If the NY Clark line was a maternal line - would the great grandsons be able
to help?
I know the family came from England - it seems via Canada.
Robert Clark (NY male Clark)
Mable Clark Shorey (his daughter)
Clark Shory (her son)
D. Shorey (Clark's son)
Albany area.
Would dna from Clark or D Shorey help - or does it have to strictly through
the paternal line?
Hi Stephen...
Send me a descendant report of some of your early Clarks, and I'll be

My husband's Clarks moved from CT to NY to OH, according to the censuses,
but I can't connect his ancestor Alfred Clark of Ashtabula Co., OH, to any
NY Clark. There are other Clarks living in Ash Co. when Alfred is there,
but I have no way to connect to any of them. Alfred said that he was born
in NY and his parents were born in CT. I have anecdotal information for his
family, but I haven't been able to prove the connection.
My husband has already been tested. He has some distant connections to
several Southern Clarks -- my guess is that they are related back to the
British Isles. I would love to have a Clark NY State DNA database. I know
it would bring results.

Anyone have Clarks from Tompkins Co. Ny?? I have Caroline Clark who married Wm. N. Smith and had at least one child there in 1830. That is all I know of my Clarks. Have never been able to make any progress on them.
Thanks, Paula Malikowski
Was raised in NY State but left in 1950. I don't know where Hobart is, I'm
ashamed to admit. However, my Clark family was an Irish Catholic family
coming to the Utica area in 1837 and raising a large family. They had a
George and they had a Frank (Francis) They had a lot of sons and I have the
entire family and who they married but gradually it peters out. I can send
you the family names and dates from Mike, the father, on up if you think
there is a chance of a match.

Your answer sounds the most promising. My Clarks (Mike) came to the Utica
area in 1837 from Ireland. They were active Catholics. They had many sons,
one named Steven (I'm just hoping the name runs in the family) . I can't
locate any of the children now , or their descendents. I have Mike Clark
(O'Cleirgh) and Mary Loftus from Castelbar arriving with baby Martin in 1837
and Mike went right to work digging the canal. I have all of the family and
some of their children. One was a Ralph Clark, son of Merian Clark. Ralph
Maynard should be in his seventies by now but I can't find him.
I want to do DNA testing on the family. I have no brothers so no way to do
it unless I find a Clark male. I hope you are it.

Oh, yes they descend from Elias Clark 9/08/1809-7/13/1889
Marilynn Masten <GardnerRus(a)carolina.rr.com> wrote: I have a bigger problem. I can find no male Clarks from my line. I know
they are out there somewhere but where? I'm really into DNA with a lot of
my lines but my Clarks are at a standstill. And you think YOU have a brick
wall?
Mine were from Mayo Co. Ireland in 1837. I've got their children and some
of the grandchildren but eventually the line disappears. I need an Irish
Clark (Cleary) from NY State!
