Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I'm still looking for Ephraim CLARK, b ca 1794, m. Deborah, who shows up
on the 1850 census of Lisle, Broome Co., NY...

Hello Dennis, Thanks for your information. I will hang on to it just in
case there may be a future connection. I really haven't done any searching
of my Clark line. Maybe something will come up. Thanks, Paula Talbot

Greetings Paula,
I felt the need to throw my two cents worth in here too.
Heather already knows about my line, but, it doesn't hurt to repost it
every now and then. I had Clarks in Milton of Cayuga County which later
became Genoa and finally Lansing in Tompkins County. Some of my Clark
line (Elias, James,& Samuel ) were in Lansing of Tompkins County around
1820. By 1825 Elias (my 4th great grandfather ) and Samuel had moved
over to Catharine in Tioga County with another son Peter Clark my 3rd
great grandfather. I believe that James married a woman name Mary ( land
deed) . James may have also been known as Elias Jr. as there is one in
the 1820 Census for Lansing. Elias was also reported to have had a son
named Josiah but I have not found much evidence of this offspring.
It is also believed that Elias had a brother named John or
Jonathan who may have also lived in this general area or region. I have
no clue how many offspring he had and what their names were.
Here is what I know about where this line was buried.
(1.) Samuel Clark (1871) and his sister Elizabeth Clark Frost (1866) in
the Schuyler /Chemung Counties area.
Elizabeth in Catharine and Samuel in the Southport /Elmira area.
(2.) Elias (1845), his wife Hiley (1840), their daughter Margart Clark
Jay (1871) and her husband Jesse Jay in Chautauqua County ( Villenova)
(3.) Peter Clark in Ionia County Michigan (1857) Keep your eyes open
for any of this line as you do your research! I am still looking for any
present day Clark Males who had ancestors in these areas to try some DNA
Testing.
Good luck !

Hello Heather. I was reading your post and noticed Hector, Tompkins Co. NY. I am researching William N. Smith who married Caroline Clark (e) and had a son Perry G. Smith in Hector, Tompkins Co. NY in 1833.
This has to be a connection. I am excited because I have nothing on this Clark family at all.
What do you think ??
My email is doghouse1(a)brainerd.net
Sincerely, Paula Talbot

Hi List,
I am hoping someone has information on my 4th great grandfather
MICHAEL CLARK. HELP!! IS ANYONE RELATED? I think he may be a
Cabbage Patch Kid.
MICHAEL CLARK was born about 1773/1774 (Census say NY family say New
England). He was married to MATILDA(last name unknown). Probably a
second wife. He had known children Susannah Ellen, and Daniel
CLARK(by Matilda). He has a daughter who married in 1834 Yates
County, NY. He has another daughter under the aged 1830-1835. If I
am right on other census he has several more sons and at least another
daughter.
I think he is in the 1810 Walkill, Orange, NY Census (other option
would be the MICHAEL CLARK on Long Island same census)
I think he is the MICHAEL CLARK in Aurelius, Cayuga County NY 1820.
He was in Hector, Tompkins, NY in 1822 where his daughter Susannah
Ellen is born.
I think he is the MICHAEL CLARK in the MIDDLEBURY TOWNSHIP, Tioga
County, Pennsylvania THE FIRST TAX PAYERS. List first made December
18th 1823.
He was in Lawrenceville, Tioga, PA in 1825 where a son Daniel was
born.(they may have been on the NY side of Lawrenceville putting them
close to Lindley, Steuben, NY)
I think he is the MICHAEL CLARK in 1835 State Census of Starkey, Yates
County, NY. He is living near Eliphalet PRICE whose mother is a CLARK
and also lived in ORANGE County, NY. Also a James and Ester CLARK who
are related to Eliphalet Price could also be related.
He is the MICHAEL CLARK in Painted Post, STeuben, NY 1840.
Some time here between 1840 and 1850 his wife MATILDA dies. Below him
in this Census is a Widow Mary SMITH. I think this is a daughter.
He is the MICHAEL CLARK in Port Allegeny, Mckean, PA in 1850 Census.
He was living with his son Daniel(married to Julia Ann CUMMMINGS).
Also living with them is Simeon & MARY COOK family who have two SMITH
children a Maria Cook born after 1840. I think this was Mary SMITH of
1840 Painted Post and probably a daughter to Michael.
He is the MICHAEL CLARK in 1860 Port Allegeny, Mckean, PA. He is
living with David(James) & Rachel(COTTON) KIBBE. Relationship
unknown?(87 years old now)
MICHAEL CLARK died he died Feb 8, 1864 and was in Burtville, Potter
County, PA. Around then David & Rachel KIBBE move to Missouri with
Rachel's father Joseph Cotton.
This is how I have tracked him so far. Any help would be very much
appreciated!.
SOURCES:
BIRTH: Birth-Death: Taken from a letter from Harold W. Clark direct
grandson of Michael Clark. Age also from the 1840 Census of Painted
post Hornby, Steben Co NY and the 1850 and 1860 Census of Port
Allegeny McKean Co, Pennsylvania.
Harold states in the letter that:
*1. Michael Clark was born in 1773 or 1774 due the census ages in item
*2 he died Feb 8, 1864 and was in Burtville, Poother County,
Pennsylvania where I assume from Harold Clarks letter that he died.
*3. Matilda died 26 Jan 1847 (from the records of Ned J Clark)
*4.The 1850 census of Liberty,McKean County shows he was 76 year old
in 1850 and was living with his son Daniel and wife Julia. In the
1860 census of Libery, McKean County he was 87 years old and living
with David and Rachel Kibbie. Both Census say he was born in New York
State.
*5.He was about 91-92 when he died.
Sincerely,
Heather Dodge
As most of you already know, there have been some recent problems with
servers at rootsweb. As a result it is possible that some mail was lost. So if you
sent something recently and you haven't seen it come through you might want
to check the archives for any of lists you are on and then post it again in a
day or so.
In addition, many AOL folks are not receiving all their mail. Again, you
might want to check the archives for any missed messages on any of the lists you
are on.
I am sorry for all the problems but rest assured that rootsweb staff is
working very long hours in an effort to get everything working again.
Take care and have a great weekend.
Emma
Good Morning Everyone,
I am sure that most of you know by now that rootsweb has been having problems
with one of their servers. Apparently the mail load was just too heavy for
that server. So they have added another server and have moved some of the mail
lists over to equalize the load a bit.
As with anything else with computers there are often some "rough" spots to
work out. So I thought I might remind all of you about these sites.
First of all, if you think you might have bounced off some of the lists you
were on you can check your subscriptions by going to password central and
asking for list of your subscriptions.
The URL is:
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/
Then, if you think you have missed some postings to any of the mail lists you
can check the archives for that mail list.
Go to this URL and enter the name of the mail list. You can then look at the
messages to the list by month.
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/
You can also search past messages for any mail list by going to this URL:
http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
First enter the name of the list you want to search. You will then get a
screen and can search the messages by year.
If you are interested in finding out other rootsweb mail lists that might be
of interest then go to this URL.
http://lists.rootsweb.com/
AND... finally.... if you have any questions concerning any list you might be
on you can contact the list admin by sending a message to:
listname-admin(a)rootsweb.com
Replace the word - listname - with the name of the specific mail list.
For example:
Wren-admin(a)rootsweb.com
The message will be forwarded to that admin.
Do be aware however, that if the server is down messages to the admin using
the above admin address probably won't work. So you can also often contact the
admin using their private e-mail address as well.
Hope this helps a bit.
Take care - Emma
