Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Good Afternoon Everyone,
I thought I would remind all of you about some of these sites. All are
helpful and contain information of all types.
First of all..... The USGenWeb Project.
I would imagine that most of you are already aware of this project and use it
frequently. If you haven't then you are really missing something. Hundreds
and Hundreds of volunteers work very hard to provide information by locality -
histories, census records, cemetery records, court records, etc.
This URL will get you to the main page for the project:
http://www.usgenweb.org/
This URL will take you to a graphic which will allow you to click on any
state. From there you can access the various county sites.
http://www.usgenweb.org/statelinks.html
One word of caution. The main page also contains a link to the USGenWeb
Archives project. Be aware that when you use the search engine provided for the
archives that search engine does NOT also search the main county pages. So
make sure you check both the individual county pages and the county archives
pages for information. Confusing I know - but that's the way it is...<g>.
Then try this one. While USGennet is not a project in the same sense that
USGenWeb is, it does serve as a host to various other projects.
Here is the URL to their main page.
http://www.usgennet.org/
And this URL will take you to the search engine for all sites hosted by
USGennet.
http://www.usgennet.org/search/
One of the projects hosted by USGennet is the Americal Local History Network.
The following URL will take you to their main site. From there you can
check the various state and county sites.
http://www.alhn.org/
Another project hosted by USGennet is the American History and Genealogy
Project. Again, this URL will take you to their main site. From there you can go
to the various state and county sites.
http://www.ahgp.org/
As with anything else out there on the internet, make sure you read their
information - mission, purpose, terms of service, etc.
Take care and I hope you enjoy these sites.

searching for information about the family of Joseph & Agnes (Donohue) Clark, married 1903 in Boston and later moved to Jackson Heights, New York. Children John, Joseph, Rose, Mary, Agnes & Anna.
Morning Everyone,
A couple of weeks ago I discovered something on google and have been giving
it a try. You can set google to send you an automatic news alert on a specific
topic. I set it for 3 of the surnames I am especially interested in and
thought I would see what happened. It is quite helpful actually. Anytime that
surname pops up in any of the newspapers google monitors I get sent a message
and a link to that message. I can then go and read the actual text if I want.
Now.... granted... I get stuff I am not really interested in but it doesn't
take long to figure those out. AND... I don't think I would want to set it for
surnames line Smith, Johnson, Jones, Clark, etc.....<g>. I also stayed away
from surnames that could also crop up in other ways - like my Street
surname.... LOL. But, I chose some not so common names and it is working quite well.
So... some of you might want to give it a try.
Go to goggle:
www.google.com
Click on the News tab at the top of the screen.
When that screen comes up scroll down a bit and on the left-hand side of the
screen will be a link to News Alert.
Click on that and follow the directions.
Oh... one more very important note. With this as with anything else out
there on the web make sure you read all the policies, terms of service, privacy
statements, etc. That way you can make an informed decision about
participating.
Hope you find it helpful.
Take care - Emma
Good Evening Everyone,
I have another great site for you to try. You can make this site one of your
bookmarks. It is a rootweb site. Type in the name of the city and it will
give you state and county.
http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi
Very easy to use and handy to keep around...<g>.
Take care - Emma
Good Evening Everyone,
I thought you might enjoy trying another new site.
The URL is:
http://www.genealogyinc.com/maps/uscm.htm
This site has census maps for most of the eastern part of the US. You can
see how the county lines changed from one census year to another.
As with many sites you will also find ads and links to for fee sites but the
maps are available free.
Hope you enjoy them and have a great weekend.
Emma
