Wondering if anyone has come across James Clark(e), born 1821 in No. Ireland & came to NY in 1846. He was a farm laborer. He went to San Francisco in 1849 but returned to NY in 1851 & married Mary Smith. They returned to California by covered wagon & ended up in Petaluma, Sonoma Co. Calif. James is buried in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Petaluma.
Greetings fellow Clarks,
Because of recent discoveries that I have made I need your
help. I am hoping one or some you can point me one way or another. Joe
is always good for some direction.
I have an Elias Clark who was born around 1753-1755. I know
from his Revolutionary War pension that he lived ( enlisted ) in Orange
County, New York. The 1850 Chemung County , New York and Ionia County,
Michigan Federal Census indicate that his sons Samuel and Peter were
born in New Jersey in 1785 and 1790 respectively. Elias' Revolutionary
War pension states that he had lived in Milton in Cayuga County, New
York for greater than 30 years prior to 1831 which is when his pension
was granted. I have most certainly found Elias and his offspring Peter,
Samuel, Margaret Clark Jay b. 1796 ( wife of Jesse ) and Elizabeth Clark
Frost b. 1789 ( wife of Jonathan ) in the 1825 Census for the Village of
Catharine on the Schuyler County New York Genweb pages. A genealogical
excursion to New York verified land transfers amongst family members in
this area and in the Lansing, Tompkins County, New York area which was
previously Milton in Cayuga County , New York. It is known that Elias'
son Samuel died in 1871 in the the Southport/ Ashland area in Chemung
County. Samuel was a Veteran of the War of 1812. Samuel married Ruth
Jay the sister of Jesse. Up to now I have had no family information
about Elias' sons James and Josiah who are mentioned in Elias' DAR
Biography.
I am hoping that someone has information on the following
Clarks that I have discovered. I have found an Elias Clark in the 1800,
1810, and 1820 Federal Census in Scipio Township in Cayuga County New
York. Does anyone know if this township borders or bordered the Milton,
area of Cayuga County and/or the Lansing area of Tompkins County New
York? I have also found an Elias , James, and Josiah Clark listed
consecutively in the 1810 Census for the village of Spencer in Tioga
County. Does anyone have information concerning these Clarks?
I have found an Elias Clark Jr. in the 1820 Lansing, Tompkins
County New York and the 1830 Census for the village of Wayne , in
Steuben County New York. On the Rootsweb Worldconnect entries I have
found that an offspring of this Elias Clark Jr. had also migrated into
Ionia County Michigan as had my ancestor, Elias' son, Peter Clark (
1790-1857 ). There was also a Josias Cole Clark ( b. 1828 ) who
migrated to Ionia County Michigan from Steuben County New York in the
1850's. I am sure that my Elias Clark is also listed directly adjacent
to the Elias Clark Jr. ( Josiah ? ) in the 1830 Census for the Village
of Wayne. The reason I am fairly sure this is my Elias Clark is
because it gives his age as being between 70-80 years young. There could
not have been many that old still alive back then? Elias died in 1845 in
Villenova in Chautauqua County New York. His wife Hiley Cole Clark had
died there in 1840.
I am also wondering if anyone has any documentation on the
Clarks in the Tyrone, Schuyler County area? They have many of the same
given names as my line, but,I don't know if there is a tie. Tyrone is
just down the road from Wayne in Steuben County.
My Peter Clark is listed in the 1810, 1820, 1825, and the
1830 Census for Catharine in what is now Schuyler County. In 1831 Peter
and his wife Hannah Taylor Clark migrated to Medina County Ohio. In the
year 1849 the family removed once more into Orleans Township in Ionia
County Michigan.
Thank you for any assistance or direction you can offer.
Dennis J. Clark

Hi Chris...
Here's another Palmer Clark that I had in my data base... Could this be
the Palmer you have as son of Frances? Moses appears to be a guess as to
his father's name.... I have a source of the info if you want to follow
this up...
I also notice you deleted Asa P. Clark, b. 1818, you had previously
listed for a son of Benjamin & Hannah Potter. Was he not a child?
