Hi Dennis,
It isn't that I won't open attachments I just hesitate to do so unless I know
the person meant to send an attachment.... <g>
Some of these virus out there now forge addresses and I usually check with
the person and find out if they intended to send one or not.
Thanks so much - I just glanced at your message and you are right it does
look interesting in terms of connections.
Will go back now and read it closer.

Looking for information on Amzi (occasionally called Amaziah) born 1815 (or
maybe 1809) in Alma, Allegany, NY (or maybe it was Hartford CT). His father
may have been named Thesial.
He definitely married Sophronia BENNETT.
Their children were: Salathiel Oramel (could be two different children, may
not be Salathiel at all), Frederick Jasper, Eliza Mildred, Andrew, and
George.
He died 11 Mar 1900 in Olean, Cattaraugus, NY. Is there anyone out there who
has access to Catt Co death records?

The following informatin is from an article published by the Clark County
Genealogical Society tittled "Turn of the Century - Rev. John Jay Clark"
The grandfather of our subject, John Jay
Clark, was born in New York
about 1750. He served in the Revolutionary War and
died in New York about
1830. His son, also named John Clark, became a
pioneer minister and always on
the frontier, going from New York to Ohio and later
to Illinois. In 1801 he
married Anna Gibbs, the daughter of Trueman Gibbs,
who also served in the
Revolutionary War. Their son, John Jay Clark, was
born in the village of
Redding, Hamilton County, Ohio, on June 18, 1815,
So the line would be:
John Clark and ??? (Abigail Hutchinson/Hutchins)
to
John Clark & Anar Gibbs
to
John J. Clark
Thanks and take care - Emma
This is an expanded explanation of how I got the b. dates for their children.
Take care everyone - Emma
First lets start out with the 1820 census of Edwards Co., Illinois.
John Clark listed as 1 male 26-44 with these folks that I have
matched up in
this way.
1 female 26-44 - Anar (Anna) (Hannah) - 1776-1794
1 male 19-25 - Orange - 1795-1801
1 male 16-18 - Alvin - 1802-1804
2 males 10-15 - Gibbs & Samuel - 1805-1810
1 female 10-15 - Cynthia - 1805-1810
2 males under 10 - John J. & Cyrus - 1811-1820
2 females under 10 - Naomi & Rosetta - 1811-1820
Orange Clark - 1795/1801 - based on the 1820 Edwards Co., Ill.
census where I think he is the 1 male 19-25. I really think that his birth
is
probably toward the end of that range 1800 / 1801. His birth is listed ans
1802 in IGI Film #1760778.
Alvin Clark - 15 May 1805 - Came from the Alvin Clark & laura Gibbs
bible as published in the Genealogical Forum of Portland Oregon bulletin,
vol. 24, Issue 8, April 1975 - was lucky enough to order that one in ILL.
Cynthia Clark - 1805-1810 - Based on the 1820 Edwards Co., Illinois
census.
Truman Gibbs Clark - 29 May 1806 - 17 Aug 1880 - came from Wes and
since there is an exact death date I am thinking they probably came from
tombstone information
Naomi Clark - 1811/1820 - This is based on the 1820 census but, in
her "A History of the Early Life of Mary Gibbs Bigelow" by Mary Gibbs
Bigelow she talks about "my little cousin Naomi Clark, a year and a half
younger
than myself" - And by her history, Naomi Clark was born on 26 June 1809.
So that might help peg Naomi as close to the 1811 birth date.
Samuel Lee Clark - based on 1820 census he would be 10-15 and
therefore born 1805-1810. In the 1840 census of Shelby Co., Illinois he is
listed
as age 30-40 (1800-1810) ; in the 1850 census of Dallas Co., Texas he is
listed as age 36 (1814); & in the 1880 census of Jack Co., Texas he is
listed
as age 67 (1813). And.. if it is him in the Ellis Co., Texas 1860 census
(and
we are still trying to decided if that is him or not) then he is age 47
(1813). So the 1814-1814 date seems to stay pretty strong for him. In 1850
he
says he was born in Ohio and in 1880 he says NY with his father born in NY
and mother in Conn. And again.. in that questionable Ellis Co., Texas 1860
census NY is given for the state of birth. I really think - based on the
Mary
Bigelow history that he was born in Ohio or that his mother was pregnant
with him when they moved from one state to another...
John J. Clark - Based on 1820 census his dates would be1811-1820.
In the 1850 census of Mercer Co., Illinois he list his age at 35 (1815).
The actual dates of 18 June 1815 (oops.. no note here but I think came from
Wes.
Rosetta Clark - Based on 1820 census 1811-1820. Actual date of
April 10, 1818 came from tombstone information. Buried Pataha Flat Cemetery
-
Patraha Flat, Garfield Co., Washington.
Cyrus Clark - Based on 1820 census 1811-1820. And since he
disappeared that is all we have on him. But he is believed to be the
youngest child
which would put him being born close to 1820.
Hi Everyone,
Thought I would send some of my New York Clark folks.
John Clark - b. abt 1779 in New York and died June 1852 in Illinois.
md
Anar (Anna) (Hannah) Gibbs - b. 8 May 1780 in Conn. - d. 4 Feb 1860 Oregon.
John's age is based on an estimate from census records and his death on
family papers.
According to his son's obituary he is described as "Rev. John Clark, a native
of New York, and a pioneer Baptist minister in both Ohio and Illinois."
In different writings Anar is called Anna and Hannah.
John Clark and Anar - along with her brother Benjamin Gibbs and his family
moved from Broome Co., NY to Hamilton Co., Ohio. They stayed there a few
years and then moved on to Illinois.
I have a wonderful essay written by Mary Gibbs Bigelow (daughter of Benjamin
Gibbs) describing their trip from New York to Ohio. In her diary, Anar is
called Hannah.
Anar Gibbs was the daughter of Truman Gibbs and Anna Barnes from Litchfield
Co., Connecticut and Truman Gibbs is listed in the 1800 census of Lisle,
Tioga Co., New York.
John Clark and Anar Gibbs it is possible that they married in New York but I
have not been able to find such a marriage record yet. BUT.... I did find a
marriage for a John Clark to a Ireny Gibbs on 23 Aug 1797 in Litchfield,
Conn. I also found a marriage for a Naomi Clark to a Samuel Knapp on 10
Mar 1799 in Litchfield Co., Conn. The Naomi name is interesting as you will
see later.
I don't know who John Clark's parents were and that is one of my biggest
questions. Nor do I know any of his brothers or sisters. I have been "told"
that it is "believed" that his parents were John Clark - b. abt 1750 in NY
and d. abt 1830 in NY and Abigail Hutchinson - b. abt 1759 in NY. But.... I
certainly have no such proof.
I have the following children for John Clark and Anar Gibbs:
1. Orange Clark - 1795/1801 in NY
2. Alvin Clark - 15 May 1805 NY
3. Cynthia Clark - 1805/1810 NY
4. Truman Gibbs Clark - 29 May 1806 NY
5. Naomi Clark - 1811/1820 NY
6. Samuel Clark - abt 1814 NY/Ohio - probably Ohio
7. John J. Clark - 18 June 1815 Ohio
8. Rosetta Clark - 10 Apr 1818 - Ohio
9. Cyrus Clark - 1811/1820 - NY/Ohio/Ill
Sure hope someone has something that might help link my John Clark to a
family.
Take care everyone - Emma

Judy, sorry for the delay in answering yours of the 13th.. I had noticed another Welcome Clark in my earlier study. Hard to believe that there should be two "Welcomes" at the same time so close together. However, "our" Welcome Clark had moved to Iowa in the mid 1850's, with brothers Luther and John Thompson Clark. Luther married Fidelia ____ , Welcome m. Mary Starr <Maxon> and lived in Stephenson CO. IL at the time of his death about 1878. John T. Clark married Elizabeth Blakeslee in Paris Hill, Oneida CO, NY in 1835. They both died in Postville, Allamakee CO, IA. He in 1885, Elizabeth in 1888. He is my wife Margaret's great grandfather.
We have not discovered the parents of these three Clark bothers. An older brother James, b. abt. 1809, stayed in NY. The fifth child in this family was Sarah Clark, b. about 1825 and is believed to be named for her mother. So far, the search for the father is unsuccessful, but we favor the name <James> Clark and recon his birth in RI about 1780. Family lore has it that this family were Episcopalian in their faith and their move to Brookfield TWP., Madison CO, NY was in the company of other Clark(e)s from RI.

Hi Sue... Do you have any vital dates and places and spouses for any of
the Clarks you mention? Any dates and names from the gravestones? Can you
make an educated guess as to the possible birth years of the possible
kids?
I can then check my data base and see if I can find any of them...

I have an Orrin D. Clark who was born in 1825 in
Laurens, Otsego Co. His father was William Clark who
was born in NY. There is a William Clark who died in
1844 who is buried in the Laurens Village Cemetery.
I'm trying to confirm that this is Orrin's father. In
addition, Orrin's mother was born in CT. I have no
additional information on her name and death. Orrin
eventually married and moved to Chenango Co. where he
and his wife, Nancy Ann, raised their children
Charles, William, John, Mary, Jerome, Angeline,
Marvin, Frank, and Edwin. After Nancy died in 1883,
Orrin married 3 more times before his death in
Colesville, Broome Co. in 1906. I'd love to link up
with anyone researching this line or with anyone who
has access to Laurens records.
