Hi:
Seeking information about William H. Clark born 31 Mar 1795 in Mass. He is
found on the 1850 Mont. Co., VA census. He married Ellen Smith and had
Edwin Reuben Clark, b. 1827.
He is my 3rd great grandfather.
Thanks,
Debi
Hello,
I'd just like to mention that I'm still trying to solve my James CLARK
mystery. He is my concrete-block wall put together with reinforced
cement. He was born anywhere in the 1790 to 1800 timeframe - somewhere
!!
My "guess" is that he was from a MA, RI, or CT family ! As my other
"guess" is that his daughter seems to have CLARK relatives near her.
James showed up in Little Compton, RI, in ~1827, he married in nearby
Westport, MA, in 1829, and fathered a daughter there in 1836. She was
Mary Anna CLARK, with nickname, "Molly" CLARK. During the 1840's, James
"disappeared." There is no indication that he died during that time.
(There is a possibility that he was the James CLARK who go on a ship in 1845
in nearby New Bedford, MA. The ship was heading out for a 4-year voyage
to the Indian Ocean. James "deserted" in Australia.)
Molly CLARK married John DEXTER of Killingly, CT, and they possibly married
in Stonington, CT, but lived most of their life in Killingly. In their
50's, they moved to Melrose, MA, and a few years later they adopted a
little girl. That little girl was my grandmother.
When my grandmother married in 1911, she listed her birth-father was William
CLARK. We have no idea who this William CLARK was.
I have a 3-page report about my grandmother's childhood, including the fact
that she was re-orphaned at Age 10. She spent from Age 10 to Age 20 in
"homes." More of the story has been told on the MA and CT Lists over
the past few years, so you can find the information in the archives of the
Lists.
(My grandmother was told many "stories" during her 8 to 10 years with the
DEXTER's, and most of them turn out to be lies.)
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
(As I've said before on the Lists, my "educated guess" is that the DEXTER's
married daughter in Killingly, CT, Mrs. Clara YOUNG, had an "unwanted
pregnancy" during the "summer of 1888," and that baby was brought to Boston
to arrange for it to become "a foundling.")
We may have arrived on different ships but we're all in the same boat now.
