I'm still looking for the parents and siblings of Orange Smith Clark:

He says in one of the census that he was born in Vermont. And, in other
census he says he is born in the U.S.A. I have sent request to the State of
Vermont a couple of times over the years and they do not have anything on
record for him.
He was born Abt 1800 in either Vermont, or U.S.A., or in the Eastern
Townships around St. Armand West (Philipsburg).
He was also Anglican. I have also had no luck in finding the Church of
England records for his birth, or for his first marriage, or any of his
children's birth. He named his first-born son, William, so it's a
possibility his father's name was William Clark
He married Georgiana "Glorain" Hogle (Hogel) Abt 1825.
Their children together were:
1. Mary Clark b: 25 Nov 1830 in Philipsburg (Missisquoi Bay), St. Armand
Twp, Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada.
2. William James Clark b: 12 Jan 1833 in Philipsburg (Missisquoi Bay), St.
Armand Twp, Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada.
3. Fanny M. B. Clark b: 1836 in Philipsburg (Missisquoi Bay), St. Armand
Twp, Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada.
4. Mary A. Clark b: 1837 in Philipsburg (Missisquoi Bay), St. Armand Twp,
Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada.
5. Henry H. Clark b: 1839 in Dunham Twp, Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada.
6. Lydia A. Clark b: 1841 in Dunham Twp, Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada.
They all eventually move back to the U.S.A in from Stanbridge to Milton,
Chittenden County, VT. Then later they all move to Iowa.
Thank you.
Clint Clark - Great, great, great grandson of Orange Smith Clark.
Hello,
I haven't posted about my grandmother, nee' Daisy WATROUS, adopted name,
Mary Anna Clark DEXTER, in a while. It's a very long story which I've
told before (see archives). For this morning, I'd just like to mention
one part of the story.
In 1911 when my grandmother married in Malden, MA, she listed her adoptive
parents as John and Mary (CLARK) DEXTER, but she listed her birth-father
as -- William CLARK. (From memory, I think she didn't mention a
birth-mother.)
We have no idea who this William CLARK is.
The background is that that Mrs. Mary DEXTER grew up in Westport, MA, with
parents, James CLARK and Mrs. Rhoda (MANCHESTER) LAVARE. James
"disappeared" around 1845, abandoning his wife and 10-year-old daughter
(and step-children).
James is one of my "concrete-block walls" and I know nothing about him.
And, because of that, I do not know about his family or his -- uncles,
aunts, and cousins, etc. So, I don't know if he was directly related
to -- William CLARK.
I just have a "suspicion" that Mrs. Mary DEXTER knew her CLARK relatives and
might have visited with them.
John DEXTER had grown up in Killingly, CT, and most of his family was there,
and that is where he and his wife lived after they married in 1850's.
It was around 1885 they left Killingly and moved to Melrose, MA. In 1892,
as an older couple, they adopted a 3-year-old girl -- my grandmother.
But, my grandmother was re-orphaned at Age 10 when Mrs. DEXTER died.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
P.S. My grandmother lived in "homes" from Age 10 to Age 20, all in
Downtown Boston. Both she, my mother, and myself -- have searched and
there is "NO" birth certificate - anywhere - for her ! My "suspicion"
is that John DEXTER made the 2 birth certificates for his adopted
daughter - disappear !
(I believe that the little girl was his granddaughter - perhaps a child of
an unwanted pregnancy of his married daughter in CT. Only my "vivid
imagination" can come up with "who" might have been the birth-father.)
(Perhaps my grandmother found out "who" fathered her, and she either
forgot - or chose not to tell her children !) (Perhaps William CLARK?)
I've "rescued" an old bible belonging to the LONG - CLARK Family of
Kingston, New Hampshire. The bible contains family records dating back to
1765 including entries relating to the LONG, CLARK, DEWHURST, DROWN,
STIMSON, WEBSTER, WIGGIN, BABSON, and LANE Families. I found a considerable
amount of information regarding the family while doing very basis research
on the internet, so I'm hoping that I will be able to locate someone from
the family so that this precious old bible can be returned to its rightful
place within the family. If you are a member of this family, or know
someone who might be, please contact me. A listing of the information
contained in the bible is as follows:
