I'm wondering if you have any Clarke families in Wenham, MA and/or
Rockingham, NH? I'm looking for the 'travels' of John Clarke who came over as a POW
to Saugus/Iron Works/Lynn (worked there as a young lad), married in Wenham,
lived there and then moved, supposedly, to Rockingham, NH. His son in law may
have been Ingram Moody who married Sarah Clarke. Thanks. Don Beattie in
Maine
Hello,
I have received new information this week that there were CLARK families in
Stonington, CT, perhaps in the early 1800's ! And, I was wondering if
anyone is researching them !
I've written before about my "brick wall extraordinaire," James CLARK,
prob. born 1790 to 1800 - somewhere !
He was from Little Compton, RI, in 1820's, and married in nearby Westport,
MA, in 1829. He and Rhoda had a daughter, Mary Anna, in 1836 in
Westport, MA. Sometime during the 1840's James CLARK either disappeared,
died, or separated from his wife ! He was not in the 1850 census with
them !
Mrs. Rhoda (MANCHESTER) (LAVARE) CLARK had 3 children from her first
marriage, and both her daughter, Lavinia LAVARE, and her daughter, Mary Anna
CLARK -- got married in Stonington, CT (1848 and 1856). This has
always sounded strange to me ! Lavinia's husband was from New Bedford,
MA, and Mary's husband was from Killingly, CT. So, I've always been
suspicious whether Mary and Lavinia had a relative living in Stonington !
Last weekend, an e-pal found a book about Stonington cemeteries, and found
CLARK families mentioned (but no dates).*
Thank you for your time.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
* Am also looking for information on the WATROUS families in Stonington, CT.
FYI: As an older couple, John and Mary (CLARK) DEXTER adopted a little
girl. She was Age 3, and her birth-name was .. Daisy WATROUS. At the
adoption in 1892, they changed her name to Mary Anna Clark DEXTER.
(I believe that the little girl was their granddaughter, or somehow related
to them !)
(I have posted information about my grandmother's unfortunate childhood on
the CT and MA Lists for several years.)
Dear Jean,
I just wanted to drop a quick note to extend my condolences on the loss
of your brother, Donald.. Even though we haven't been able to tie our
families together, I really believe that we are related. My deepest
sympathy to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Joanne Clark Borden
My brother, Donald Fenner Clark has passed away just this morning after a
long illness. He was 67 and leaves a wife, 4 children, 10 grandchildren and
one great grandson. His parents and one sister , Joan Margaret Clark,
preceded him in death
Don was born Dec 29, 1938 (Whitinsville MA), son of Chester Mark Clark (born
S. Thomaston ME) and Beatrice J Fenner (Whitinsville, MA descended from
Providence RI Fenner line).
If anyone would like further on this line feel free to contact me.
