New to the Clark list, am seeking info on Irving Richardson Clark of MA (1874 - 1953, Millis, formerly East Medway, MA) and wife Nellie Wamboldt of Nova Scotia. Especially interested in more on Nellie and George, who was adopted by Nellie and Irving, and took the name Clark.
Also, the Clark and Richardson families of that area seem to have intermarried on numerous occasions over the years. Rebecca Clark married John Richardson in 1679, which may have been the earliest the two families married in the States.
John and Rebecca are my 8th great grandparents.
Are there other descendants of these families on this list?
Gary Allen Richardson
Warwick, RI
Hi Sue,
I'm not exactly looking for a look-up; I am just asking if researchers
could remember my "brick wall" -- James CLARK/E, born anywhere in the 1790
to 1800 timeframe - born "somewhere."
My "guess" is that he was from a New England family, and possibly in CT, RI,
or MA, as he was found to have been living in Little Compton, RI, in the
late 1820's.
(Both his daughter and his step-daughter married in Stonington, CT, and we
don't know why ! So, this might be a "hint" that the extended family had
connections there.)
James CLARK/E married in nearby Westport, MA, in 1829, and fathered a
daughter there in 1836. By 1850 he had "disappeared." There is a
50/50 chance that he was the James CLARK who got on a ship in New Bedford,
MA, bound for a 4-year voyage to the Indian Ocean. This James, a
"greenhand," "deserted" in NSW, Australia, presumably never to be seen
again.
In summary, he "appeared" in RI around 1825-1827, married in MA in 1829,
fathered a daughter in MA in 1836, and "disappeared" during the 1840's.
And, his wife, the widow, (former) Mrs. Rhoda (MANCHESTER) LAVARE, was born
in 1800 in MA.
Thank you for your time.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
P.S. During the summer I have found further "potential evidence" that
the daughter of James CLARK, who, in the 1850's, became Mrs. Mary Anna
(CLARK) DEXTER, was the birth-grandmother of .. my grandmother. As an
older couple, John and Mary "Molly" DEXTER, adopted a 3-year-old girl, and
they renamed her to .. Mary Anna Clark DEXTER.
John and "Molly" had mysteriously left their life-long home in Killingly,
CT, to move to Boston, MA, and it was right around the same time that
"someone" had become pregnant with my grandmother. .. After all is said
and done, it is my "educated guess" that the married daughter, Mrs. Clara
YOUNG, of Killingly, CT, had an "unwanted pregnancy" during the summer of
1888.
