According to family tradition, Nehemiah left Vermont, walked to the
Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania where he worked "in the stone coal mine". In 1814,
he married Catherine Clark of Kingston, Pennsylvania, and later worked John
Smith's farm on shares. It was a cold year, and he got one and half bushels of
corn for his share and other grain in proportion. They later moved to
Tunkhannock for 5 years, and in 1826 they lived on a farm in Abington Township, near
Waverly, Pennsylvania. He became a tanner.
Nehemiah and Catherine were members of the Abington Circuit Methodist
Episcopal Church, Waverly PA. (1851-1867 records). Abington Centre Class formed
in the year 1832 in the Abington Centre Schoolhouse by Rev. Samuel Griffin, a
local preacher. Original members: Owen Wight, leader; Besty Wight; Nihimiah
