My husband's DNA results are in, with no identical matches turned up. I believe his ancestor Samuel Clark may have been the son of Thomas Clark of Randolph Co, NC and Sarah Clark of Orange Co, NC, but lack proof. Thomas was a son of Samuel Clark who died in 1783 in Randolph Co, NC. Some have identified this Samuel Clark as the same who married Elizabeth Bennett in Burlington, NJ, however we believe he is not the same Samuel Clark. Sarah Clark was a daughter of James & Elizabeth Clark of Orange Co, NC. There is a possibility Thomas and Sarah were cousins.
Despite the fact that there are (so far) no exact matches, the results are close to that of the Francis Clark/Cordelia Lankford line. With three mismatches, it is unlikely that my husband is descended from Francis Clark, however I find it intriguing in light of the fact that Francis was a Quaker and the Guilford/Randolph County area of North Carolina from where I believe my Samuel may have come was heavily Quaker. There is, however, no indication whatsoever that Samuel or Thomas were ever Quaker. (Thomas' brother Dougan Clark became a Quaker after the Revolutionary War.)
This particular Clark DNA project is aimed at sorting out Virginia Clarks, however I would be thrilled if more North Carolina and Tennessee Clark descendants became involved, as well, since many came through Virginia on their way to NC from Pennsylvania. There have been only 25 submissions, so far--the more, the merrier!
