I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Carlos CLARK which was taken
at the S. S. Vose & Son Studio in Waterville, Maine. The photograph appears
to have been taken in the 1880's with Carlos appearing to be in his 20's at
the time. I am hoping to locate someone from his family so that this
wonderful old treasure can be returned to their care. If you are a member
of this CLARK Family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
Thank you for sending me this information. These folks are not part of my
Clark family; I do hope you can locate them. There are a lot of Clarks in
the "DownEast" area of Maine who originally came to Canada (new
Brunswick/Nova Scotia) and moved into the coastal loacations of Washington,
Knox, Waldo, and Lincoln counties. I suspect that this group of Clarks is
from that community. Folger is also and important old name in that area;
the library at the University of Maine at Orono (main campus) is the Folger
Library. I actually think it is the Raymond (H?) Folger Library, so it is
possible that the man you identified as the son of Harrison Fogler and Mary
Andrews. They might have some family history and interest in this album at
the library. Both St. Clair and Leach are still prominent names here in
southern Maine (York and Cumberland counties).
I found this link that might be illustrating the family you are searching
for:
http://books.google.com/books?id=xdsgysln66MC&pg=PA1774&lpg=PA1774&dq=St....
Notice that the name was changed from "Sinkler" (also Sinclair) and a son
James moved from New Hampshire into Maine and then northeast up the Maine
coast into the same area that the Foglers and Clarks lived in.
Cornish/Sanford are in southern Maine and are right on the New Hampshire
border, so it seems logical to assume that this is part of the same family.
I hope you are able to locate the owners of the album. What a wonderful
discovery!
Meg(Clark) Gardner
