Mike,
I have seen the database your are referring to. I am not sure about, nor am I qualified to speak to, the possibility of a connection between Francis Clark and GR & William Clark, HOWEVER you might want to take a look at the Virginia Clark DNA Project at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~hjohnson/clark.html
It will take a little effort to wade through the pedigrees and the dna matches, but I think you will find it interesting.

I have come across a large web site/genealogy on RootsWeb/WorldConnect
that appears to gives a connection I was seeking in my July 3 note
(below) -- between Francis Clark (d 1799; the first Methodist minister
in Ky.) and the famous Kentucky Clarks: George Rogers (1752-1818) and
William (1770-1838).
According to Joel Hager's "Southern West Virginia" site (which contains
more than 220,000 names), George Rogers and William Clark are nephews of
Francis. Francis' brother, John, is father of GR and William. This is
shown in the descendancy view of the earliest Clark I could find at this
site, Michael Clark (b~1624):
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&db=hagerj&id=I19...
Francis and John are in the 4th generation; George Rogers and William in
the 5th.
Any comments on the apparent veracity of the Clark genealogy on Joel's site?
Best wishes,
-- Mike Ross (San Jose, Calif.)

I'm the GGGGGGrandson of Francis Clark (m. Dorcas <lastname?>; d. 24
October 1799), the first Methodist minister in the state of Kentucky.
The lore in our family -- and mentioned specifically in the genealogy
compiled by my great grand aunt, Lucy Lee Mahan Spilman of Harrodsburg,
Ky. (b. 25 March 1878; d. 2 March 1962) -- is that there is a relation
between "our" Clarks (the "Francis") line, and that of the famous
William and George Rogers Clarks. But her genealogy does not show this
connection, at least as far as I can tell at this point.
Does anyone on this list know of a connection between these early
Kentucky Clark families. Since both came from (or through) Virginia, I
can imagine that any connection might be there or even back in England.
But I'd love to know if such a connection is either well-known ... or
there are others with a similar (but unconfirmed) family lore.
Many thanks,
