Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
In talking with the Tech Support of Earthlink, this is the only way they told me I would be able to find out if this can be done.
Sorry to do this, but I need to check something out with Earthlink's new Spam Blocker :)
Will it let mail through to me from RootsWeb mailing List(s), IF I just enter the domain name " rootsweb.com " in my address book
"" If you need to allow email from a large number of people (at a company, for instance), adding an entire Company (Domain) to your Address Book might be more convenient. ""
sounds fair enough for me, but will it really work with Rootsweb?
Digest mail mode "should" be able to flow through naturally, as it is sent out by the RootsWeb server it's self :)
BUT regular List mail mode, even though the individual mailings are delivered from the RootsWeb server ... the in-box indicates who the message is from originally ....
that's what I want to check out ... so please bear with me, I will have my settings on HIGH for the next couple of hour's :(
It will not be necessary for you to reply to the automatic message you get, when you try to post a reply to me ... unless you are just dieing to get added to my personal address book :)
so here goes ... inquirer ing minds want to know !
Greetings Folk's -
Note this is not a topic for discussion on this List ... I just wanted
to spread the word to the wise :)
If you now have, or are planning to use in the future, a "spam blocking
agent" program with your email service, on your own, or one provided
through your ISP internet service provider .... Please take note !
Please be sure
1) that you add ALL the RootsWeb mailing List(s) that you are subscribed
to, on your accept list(s) / address book ...
ListName-L(a)RootsWeb.com or ListName-D(a)RootsWeb.com [if you are
subscribed in the Digest Mail Mode] ...
2) add ALL the people you want to hear from, to your accept list(s) /
address book ... or else YOU will unknowingly be blocking US from
contacting YOU :(
If your mail bounces on this mailing List due to a spam blocking
program, rest a sure you will be promptly UNSUBSCRIBE automatically on
the forth bounced message, by the mail delivery system ... RootsWeb nor
I will NOT respond to ANY request message(s) sent to us, from your spam
blocking program ... sorry :(
Here is an article on the subject, in case you wanted some more info
about this ...

Responding to Another E-Mail Challenge
By Pamela Parker
June 6, 2003
With challenge/response, senders must prove they're human before their
messages get through.
As if e-mail marketers didn't have enough headaches, during the past few
weeks two separate companies introduced spam-blocking e-mail services
that use a system known as challenge/response. It's a system well worth
monitoring, as it appears destined to grow in popularity.
