In an old book of biographical sketches in the Guthrie Center, Iowa,
public library, I found the following:
"John Clark, a native of Virginia, but who came to Iowa in the spring
of 1853, and then settled in Victory township, was the first person to
make settlement in this township. Coming from Victory township early in
April, 1854, locating upon section 32, his son, above named, (..."Isaac
Clark..." we believe, abides up that early-chosen homestead tract. Mr.
Clark, although born in the Shenandoah Valley, in his manhood became an
ardent abolitionist."
The other township referred to is Dodge Township.
This John Clark spoken of is a gggrandfather of my husband. Abraham
Clark, my husband's ggrandfather, was his son, and a brother of Isaac
Clark.
Does this John Clark mean anything to anyone?
Also in Guthrie County, Iowa, in the 1800s for a time was a Moses Clarke,
who is not any relation to our family, I don't think.
