George W.Clark and Margaret Chittick lived in Muscatine.Iowa.my great great grandmother was Mary Ellen Clark(Cochrane)is anyone one related to this family.Mary Ellen had a brother J.E.Clark who was a Dr.in California.Mary Ellen and Robert William Cochrane moved to Hanford California in the early 1900'sShe died there.
We have Guthrie County Clarks in our family.....a John Clark who went to
Guthrie County we think from Indiana, and before that from Virginia. Many
of his children were born in Indiana but John was born in Virginia. His
wife was named Susannah. Somehow the name Puterbaugh is involved. That
may have been Susannah's maiden name but I don't know. Their son
Abraham P. Clark was their son and my husband's great grandfather.

Little to nothing is known of occupations for my Clarks. The father, Wm.
George, was reportedly a self-made "doctor" and rarely went anywhere without his
little black bag full of tortureous instruments and cures.
I wish to identify parents and/or siblings of WILLIAM GEORGE CLARK, b. 26
Nov. C1812 (where?); d. 26 Mar. 1896 (bur. in Dedham Cem., Newton Twp, Carroll

She was daughter of Isaac Smith and Susannah Moore who came from "E. TN" with
the newlyweds in 1834 and are found in Davis Co., IA census 1850. Polly Anna
and parents are buried in the old Clark homestead cemetery near Pulaski, Davis
Co., IA.

Lambert. He lived in Urbana, Monroe Co., IA in 1870 census. He's found in Dedham,

Hello list members! Thanks to all of you with your great emails all the
sharing that is done! My hat is off to you all!!
My Clark lines are in several counties of Iowa:
PAGE COUNTY: 1880-1920 George W. Clark and his wife Malinda Elizabeth Reed
Clark-- one of their sons married into the Ridenour family. In 1904, she
is
was mentioned as still living in Page Co.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY: Possible an "Alonzo" Clark who was a doctor. I have not
found a trace of him!! Time frame would be 1890-1920 or so.
IOWA COUNTY: Another Clark not related to the two above, is another George
Clark
who came to Iowa Co. from Wood Co. Ohio in the 1860's and married there to a
Lena Brusha. His father was John Clark and wife Eliza Hale Clark. Census
records show that John's mother's name was Nancy.
Thanks for your time!
Regards,
Kathy Clark Stovall

Fellow listers-
As I was translating my brother-in-law's family newsletter (Verchot) into
the LARGE-TYPE EDITION for his mother, I encountered a profound little
tidbit I'd like to share:
<<< When an old person dies, it's like a library burning down. >>>
Mother's Day is a good time to bring out the family Bible and ASK THOSE
QUESTIONS that you won't be able to later.
I sure wish I had.

For genealogical purposes, I'm searching for the daughter of Oscar Ellis
(O. E.) (aka "Jack") Coppenbarger and unknown Clark. Jack and his wife
were quite young when they married in
or near Baxter Springs, Cherokee County KS. When the daughter was born
about 1927-28, her mother died leaving Jack as a very young widower.
Jack's mother-in-law took custody of the infant and returned to Cedar
Rapids, IA where she raised her grandaughter as a Clark, not as a
Coppenbarger. The mother-in-law was owner or somehow associated with
Clark Milling Company of Cedar Rapids.
I would like to communicate with either Jack's daughter or her
descendants to update and share genealogy data. I believe that she and
her offspring would want to know about her father's side of the house.
Jack, my father's first cousin, was a hard-working, civic-minded person
and a favorite visitor when my siblings and I were growing up.
If this sounds familiar, please contact me at my email address. I'm
aware this post may sit in the archives for an undetermined period of
time. I have no intention of changing my email address, but in the
event something unforeseen occurs, anyone located in Joplin, MO named
Dannelley, my maiden name, will be able to locate me.
Nancy Dannelley Valencia
Interesting! My GGF, William Marion Clark lists his occupation as lawyer
in the census'. He was b. 1850 in Mahaska Iowa and was in Clay Center,
Clay Co. NE in 1894 when a daughter, Stella, was born. His previous son,
Malter Marion, was born in 1881 in Burlington Jct, Nodaway, MO. Prior to
this his first child, Eva, was born in 1872 in Keithsburg, Henderson Co.
Illinois. Are there any Colleges in the area which taught law? Was it
easy to get a degree then? I have noted that a Henry Clark owned the
parcel adjacent to my gggf. Perhaps he was related to my family and
funded the education of William. Room for thought

I don't think I have any substantive information to add to your
information
but do want to comment on your post in genera. This is a fascinating
post!
I, too, am a Clark and am continually amazed at how many of us are
lawyers!
Now, the other interesting thing is John Thompson Clark.
My 4G grandfather was Samuel Thompson Clark, born 1790. He married
Lucinda
Thompson. (Wm/Hannah Lewis Thompson). Samuel's brothers were William
and
Joseph. Sisters Mary Polly and Marcy. Samuel T. and Lucinda were born
in
Charlestown/Westerley area of Rhode Island and then moved to Chenango
County
NY and then their sons, Cyrus Lester and David Jasper came to Iowa,
Scott
County.
We have yet to figure out where the middle name of Thompson came from as
we
are still trying to figure out Samuel T.'s mother's maiden name. His
parents were William and Mercy Clark of Charlestown, RI.
Anybody with any ideas on where the Thompson middle name comes from are
more
than welcome to contribute these!
Sincerely,
Bev Clark, from Scott County Iowa

I am new to this list, hoping to break through this clue in my husband's
family. His great grandfather, John Seward, was the below mentioned,
Edward Seward's father. John Seward and family moved to South Dakota in
1880. It is the Seward-Clark connection that I am looking at. I think
Mary Clark is John Seward's sister. Anyone have any Clark's in Cerro Gordo
county, Iowa?
Edward Seward was baptised, Octavia Frances Seward August 6, 1876 at St.
Joseph Catholic church, Mason City, Iowa. Sponsors were John Clark and Mary
Clark.
1850 Wisconsin federal census, Washington County, West Bend Twp.
page 036 Seward, John age 45, born Ireland
Mary, age 35, wife, born Ireland
Mary age 9, born Boston
Ellen age 6 born Boston
William age 3 born Boston
John age 6/12 born Wisconsin
1880 Federal Census, Cerro Gordo, Iowa
Clark, John H. age 38, born Ohio, drayman, parents born in Ireland
Clark, Mary, wife, age 37, born Massachusetts, dressmaker, parents
born in Ireland
Seward, Ellen, sister-in-law, age 30, born Massachusetts, housework,
parents born Ireland
Seward, Eddie, nephew, age 4, born Iowa, parents born in Wisconsin
Seward, Mary, niece, age 1, born Iowa, parents born in Wisconsin

I have now put up a new CLARK CONNECTION CENTRAL web page with the links for
the CLARK/CLARKE Lists including the General CLARK & CLARKE Lists and message
boards. If you do have or are going to have web pages for your CLARK/CLARKE
genealogy --- I will be happy to add the links for them. I also will continue
to recommend that subscribers to locality lists for the CLARK/CLARKE surnames
also subscribe to the CLARK & CLARKE general lists. I think the more we
spread the word the better for CLARK/CLARKE researchers to make connections.
