Charles CLARE m.Sarah Jolliffe 1838 Wyke Regis.
Son James William CLARE Born 1848 married Selina Bishop SIMMONDS in
1877.I am interested in finding out about the CLARE family pre 1838.
My grandmother was a daughter James & Selina Clare, came to Australia in 1919.

Just a small thought. The name Selina often implies non Conformist leanings.
The Countess of Huntingdon was oroginally Lady Selina Hastings and a lot of
children were named after her. You might find help in Chapel rather than
Church registers. Many of them are kept at the PRO.
John Clare

The only Charles Clare in Dorset in the IGI was born on 8th Sept 1808 in
Bridport - which would tie in for his wedding date. His parents were Bernard
& Susanna Clare.
As his marriage squeaks into the Civil Registration period, you can order a
copy of the wedding certificate to confirm/disprove the above. See
