I am trying to find information on my stepsister and/or her family. Elsie
R. Clare was b. 5/18/1914 in MO according to my mother's records. I think
she may have been brought up by her father's family. Her/my mother's name
is Opha McNeal. My brother told me that Elsie married a German sailor.
If you have knowledge of Elsie or her family, I would appreciate hearing
from you. Thank you.
Will Sharp
I seek information on the origin, parentage and family of my
great-great grandfather William Clare, born in Ireland (I have no
idea where) in 1805/6; came to the United States by 1834 (whether
with or without his parents I don't know); lived briefly at
Pittsburgh, Pa., then at Tuscaloosa, Ala., and finally on Capitol
Hill, Washington, D.C., where he died May 5, 1855. He married by
1834 Margaret A. Gleason (1811-1885), a native of Newfoundland
whose parents were born in Ireland. They had several children,
including Major William Clare, of the Confederate Army; Amanda
Clare (Sister Mary Samuel), a founder of Mount de Sales Convent,
Catonsville, Md., and Mary Adele Clare, who married William Henry
Clagett, of Washington, D.C.
