Ruth's parents were Claibourne F. Jackson GROSS, 1863, MO - 1939, AR, & Mary E. CHAMBERS, 1868, MO - 1933(?) AR. They were near Biggers, Randolph Co., AR at the time of their deaths.
Ruth is listed as Ruth Clardy, of Waterloo, AL in Jackson Gross' 1939 obituary.

Rochele,
Sorry to take so long. To our knowledge there were no slaves owned by this Clardy branch. By the way, Daniel's dates are not correct. He was born ca. 1832 in Virginia and died some time after the 1880 census most likely in Lincoln Co, Tenn..
I am curious to know who were the parents of your grandmother, Mattie Clardy?
Thanks, Jan jhjh2002(a)hotmail.com
