Hi Nita!
Just curious, what is your Pottawatamie Indian connection? And, did you ever
get anything on the James Clardy of Anderson Co TN? Wanda Bouchey probably
has info on him. Family tradition has my ggreatgrandparents as cousins with
the same last name and part Indian. It appears that my ggreatgrandmother
"Betsy" Elizabeth Clardy/Clarida is a daughter of Michael Clardy and Nancy
Comer of Anderson Co TN and probable sister to the above-mentioned James. She
married William T. Clarday/Clarida b.1802 d. 1845 IL. I'm a jeweler and have
been working 6 days a week (long days) for the past month, so I haven't had a
chance to even look through my files, which are packed away because we're
remodeling the basement. Zeno Clardy is just a curiosity to me- such an
unusual first name and so rich! I find it odd that he isn't in any of the
notes or databases that I've searched for the past four years (plus I lived
in El Paso as a small child and live a few miles from Lafayette Co MO now. I
remember the big frame houses on Wyoming in El Paso, where most old ranch
homes were made of stone... not a lot of trees in El Paso in the 1880's!) I
also posted the biography to the Genforum Clardy site. Maybe something will
come forward...

Does anyone have records concerning ZENO CLARDY of Missouri and Texas? I 'm
just curious as to which Clardy family he belonged to...Joanne Clarida Shrout
This biography was found on the website of Clardy Elementary School in El
Paso Texas:
Allie D. Clardy, pioneer El Pasoan and mother of Josephine Fox, owned the
land Clardy Elementary was built on in 1954. Mrs. Clardy was born Allie
Davis, November 2,1865, in Lafayette County Missouri. She was the youngest of
five daughters of Colonel Joseph and Rebecca Davis.
Allie Davis married Zeno Clardy at 4 p.m. on October 4, 1880 in Lafayette
County. Zeno Clardy, a prominent attorney moved to El Paso, Texas with Allie
and their new daughter Josephine in 1882. The Clardy family lived in a big
frame house at the corner of Mesa and Wyoming, this area is now part of
Interstate 10. The Clardys flourished in El Paso, amassing great wealth
through a thriving law practice and smart investment in the exploding west
Texas town of El Paso.
The Clardy's were known for their appreciation of the Arts as well as a sense
of civic duty. The city of El Paso has been the beneficiary of money,
property, valuable artworks, antiques, and other treasures donated by
Josephine Clardy Fox before and upon her death on May 11, 1970.
Many charities, hospitals, churches, and the arts received great donations
from this generous family. The Clardy family influence is evident throughout
El Paso. Fox Plaza, The Fox Fine Arts Center, and the more than 3 million
dollars bequeathed to the University of Texas at El Paso are proof of the
legendary Clardy fortune.
