G.A.R. Member was known as"Veteran Engineer" of Fire Department
Lewis L. Clapper, 82 year-old Civil War veteran, died Friday from a paralytic stroke at his home 2860 East Orthodox street, Frankford. He was the last known survivor of Company C, 121st Pennsylvania Volunteers Union Army, in which he served for three years and three months as color sergeant, and was a member of Post No. 18, G.A.R.,Twentieth and Callowhill streets.
Mr. Clapper was also known as the "veteran engineer" of the Philadelphia Fire Department, having for forty seven years been attached to Engine Company No. 21 at 826 New Market street. He is survived by his widow, Katie, and by three sons, Lewis L. Clapper, Jr., who made his home with his parents. Joseph Clapper, of 2224 Fairmount avenue, and Edward Clapper, sexton of St. Andrew's Rectory, Manayunk. Interment will be in Fernwood Cemetery, the G.A.R. burial grounds, on Tuesday afternoon, following funeral services at home.
