I have a small book "Manual of Catholic Devotions" (last word is very hard to read), which I found in my deceased husband's papers. It is old, and very worn. On the flyleaf, there is a
handwritten note:
M.. Alidya Clapper
Return to 331 Madison Street
Petoskey.
I have checked the 1930 census, and there is an Alida Clapper living there with her family:
Forest - father
Agnes mother
Ida M
Helen
John C
Clara L
Mary A
Alida/Alidya is 18 years old.
I would like to return this wonderful memento to her descendants. Please email me at
b.hootman(a)att.net to make arrangements.
My husband's mother was then living in Petoskey (prior to her marriage) on Grove Street. Her name was Audrienne Mathilda
Nicolle; her sister, Bernadette Nicolle was living in Petoskey
in 1930, also.
I believe that Alida, Bernadette, and Mathilda must have been friends, or at least, acquaintances, and would love any information connecting these families, or any information on the Hootman, Nicolle, Mournier families in Petoskey and or
Escanaba.
Matilda married Herald M Hootman (son of Addison and Delia Simpson Hootman). They had John and Jim Hootman (my husband and his twin brother).
Bernadette married Chris Lindemann and they lived in Grand Rapids.
Hoping someone recognizes this information and gets in touch. I would like to see Alida's prayer book "go home".
Barb Brown Hootman

Joel, I was adopted by Pearl(Clapper) and George Clauston. Howard and Doris were my Aunt and Uncle. I knew your Dad as a baby. My Grandfather was James Clapper. I stayed with Howard and Doris many times in Lambertville. I beloeve I have an Army picture of your Grandfather. My mother died in 1953 and my brother, George Howard Clouston ans I were put in Foster homes and lost contact with the family. My brothers middle name was after your Grandfather Howard. As an adult I knw that Howard had died, I think of diabetes, but i'm not sure. I remember your Grandfather and Grandmother very well as they were always so nice to me. Your Grandmother bought a yellow dress I wore on my first day of school. Bert Clapper(James wife)was a very strict and religious person. She was my mother Pearls' stepmother. She never really accepted my brother and I probably since we were adopted. I know more about other members of the Clapper if you need more information. I guess we are actually 2nd c!
ousins. I'll be waiting to hear from. Barbara Rigg
