I have some information on Harold H. Clapp who founded Clapp Baby food.
The last surviving son passed in June:
Jack Clapp, 89, entered this world in Ithaca on Aug. 28, 1921, and passed peacefully on Wednesday (June 22, 2011).
As an infant, his parents, Harold H. Clapp and Anna (Alberger) Clapp began making his food in the basement of their home, leading to the first baby food business (CLAPP'S) based in Rochester.
Jack entered the Navy to serve in WW II. He was one of the original "Flyboys" chosen from the Rochester area. Based out of Key West, he was a subchaser; he then served in the Reserves for many years flying out of Niagara Falls. Jack's life work was as a mechanic.
In 1943, he married Catherine L. Kurtz of Wayland. Together they have seven children. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Catherine Clapp; children, John (Cathy) Clapp, Helen (William) Keough, Suzanne Donald, Elizabeth (David Christie) Clapp, Mary Catherine (Tom Newton) Clapp, Debbie (Eric) Kmentt and Roger Clapp; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice. To share a memory with family please visit www.NewcomerRochester.com
