I continue to monitor this site for info for my late wife's
family. Her Clapp relative was William Clapp, born 28 Nov 1823 (in
Vermont we think). His wife was Phebe Ann Brott b 1844
Ohio. Their children were Elvira, Rosa, and Mary Jane, all born in
Illinois. Both William and Mary Jane died in Nebraska. Mary Jane
was my wife's (Kay Craig Chapman) great-grandmother
Kutscher. Clapp>Kutscher>Moon(White adopted)>Craig.

Thank you so much for responding...
I received a correction. Tom Clapp was the owner of a store in Midway, Madison Co, TX, I believe in/around the 1860's. He had a brother named Bill and Elisha. From my understanding they were buried in Midway. My ancestor (Melissa Fairfax-Nixon) was born in 1860. So the Tom Clapp I'm looking for had to be born before that time.
Brandie

The 1910 census shows a possible match to
Alice M Fairfax born 1909 however the mother seems too old to have had a relationship to Tom Clapp.

I am searching for the Clapp family out of Madison County, Texas. I believe a Tom/Thomas Clapp who owned a store in Midway, Madison Co, TX, was the father of one of my ancestors, Melissa Fairfax. She would not be a legimate child. Also I was told that Tom had brothers (Elisha, Bill).
Please contact me with any information you have...

I am Descended from Roger Clapp (1630).
I resided in Madison County, TX for 7 years during the 1990s.
The Clapp's that were there were decendants of Jacob Clapp who settled in NC.Jacob was a German. There are many Clapp's buried in Madison County and Houston County. At one time there were several family members in Midway but to the best of my knowledge There are no Clapp's left in the county.
