I've been researching the descendants of Benjamin Lynn Clapp, the Mormon general authority who was excommunicated in 1859 and died in California in 1865. Here is a bio of him: http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/w/o/wol3/clappbl1.htm.
I understand that Amos W. Clapp is the grandson of Benjamin Lynn Clapp through his first wife Mary Rachel Schultz. Her eldest son was Frank Lewis or Lorenzo Clapp. He married Ruth Condit (whose family went across the plains to Utah--I assume she went with them) in 1855 in San Jose. Amos is his 5th child out or 14. I have here that he married a Rafella Corilla (probably the same person you're talking about) and that he had a son named Amos who is a doctor according to the 1930 Census.

Frank Lewis/Lorenzo Clapp is my 4th great grandfather. I'm descended through Annie Clapp/William Brooks. I've been researching this line. Let's exchange info! I have a picture of William Brooks that the kind people at the Laguna Beach Historical Society scanned for me. William Brooks is one of the founders of Laguna Beach.
Frank Lorenzo's father was Benjamin Lynn Clapp. He joined the LDS Church around 1836 and became a general authority in 1845. There's a short bio of him at http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/w/o/wol3/clappbl1.htm.
He had 4 wives. Frank Lorenzo is the eldest child of the 1st wife, Mary Rachel Schultz. The families of wives #1 and 2 moved to northern California by 1860. Benjamin Lynn Clapp was excommunicated from the Utah church in 1859. Apparently he died in 1865 in Liberty, California (a ghost town near present-day Stockton), but I haven't seen proof of that yet. If he's in the Liberty Cemetery his grave is unmarked.
I don't know what happened to the 3rd wife, who apparently had no children. The 4th wife had twin boys, who went on to have large families of their own. Apparently they stayed in Utah.
How are you related?

I am sorry I did not responded sooner. Been waiting to see if someone had some real information.
In researching Julia Clapp md to Social Rolph I have come to believe but cannot prove she was the daughter of Adolphus Clapp (1774-1850) and Hannah P (believed to be Pomeroy) (? - 1851). Easthampton, Massachusetts Town Records (reconstructed by Edward Loomis LDS Film 1871945) show baptism dates of children born before 1805/1806, including Adolphus (1897), Julia (abt 1799; bpt 4 Sep 1803 at age 4yr), unknown (abt 1799/1800), Hannah (8 Feb 1801), Phebe (bpt 4 Sep 1803) and Mary Ann (bpt 24 Nov 1805). It appears that Adolphus moved his family to the Sheldon area of Genesee Co., New York between 1805 and 1810 together with his father and some brothers. Perhaps his remaining children Enos P (abt 11 May 1810), Martha 28 Apr 1812), Eliza (unk)and perhaps another Enos P (abt Oct 1814)were born in Genesee County. One individual has Martha born in Bennington where Adolphus, Hannah and other Clapp's are buried. (Adolphus is found in the 1800 census in Easthampton, Massachusetts; in th!
e 1810 census in Sheldon, Genesee Co., New York; in 1820 in Bennington, Genesee, New York, in 1830; in Town of Wales, Erie, New York; in 1840 in Town of Wales, New York, and; in 1850 widow Hannah Clapp is shown in Wales, Erie, New York).
Another descendant of Mary Ann Clapp, one from Martha Clapp and myself (my wife) through Julia Clapp have all ended up at this same impass. Strong circumstantial evidence but no proof. No will for Adolphus has been found. Some researchers think there could be a will for Hannah in the Buffalo, Erie County Courthouse. My initial efforts contacting the county and reviewing microfilm records has not been positive. It appears that if records ever existed for this time period in Genesee, Wyoming and Erie counties they have yet to be found. I have yet to check out church records.
Note: the birth years for your Mary Ann (1810) and Adolphus' Mary Ann (1805) do not match, but the other descendant of Mary Ann also has an 1810 birth year from Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts also has her md to (Francis) Lyman Simpson b 25 May 1797 Brookfield, Worcester, Massachusetts; md abt 1835. She believes that her Mary Ann must be the same as Mary Ann dau of Adolphus in spite of the birth year and birth location variations. This based on other information I think she has. Work done by other researchers in the Genesee and Wyoming counties (see bulletin boards for these counties) seem to have a Lyman Simpson and or a Francis Lyman Simpson living in the area and tend to believe his wife could have been Mary Ann the dau of Adolphus.
Mary Ann Clapp and (Francis) Lyman Simpson had one child Mary Ann Simpson b 6 Feb 1840 Brewster, Stephensen Co., Illinois. Mary Ann Clapp Simpson died following childbirth 10 Feb 1840 in Brewster, Stephensen Co., Illinois. This descendant did not have any indication of other children born prior to Mary Ann Simpson?
As for Martha Clapp, she appears to have md Lyman Avery Brown. I believe the descendants of Julia, Mary Ann and Martha can be found on various web sites or postings on Rootsweb, etc.,
I hope this matches with your information and provides a new line of investigation and does not take you off track for your Mary Ann Clapp. If it is the same Mary Ann Adolphus is listed in the Clapp Memorial and his ancestry can be taken from there. I have his parents as Aaron Clapp and Phebe Danks, his grandparents as Aaron Clapp and Jemina Bartlett. Then Roger, then Preserved, but I have not verified/proven.

Wow, I don't know how closely related I am to this guy, but he sure looks
like te side of the family my Clapp side runs on!
In fact, I have an uncle that is a spitting image of this man!!!
Well, there have been a lot of folks subscribing and unsubscribing lately to
the list. I think we should do a little summer check in with each other.
I know there are lot's of folks on vacation right now, but let's share who
our Clapp line is.
I'll upload mine in just a few minutes.
