In 1834 the Columbus Factory was open in Muscogee County, GA. Through the
years the names changed to Columbus Manufacturing Co. and Chattahoochee
Falls Co., The community always referred to it as Julius R. CLAPP, Julius
was one of several partners. He lived on a hill over-looking the cemetery,
factory and community that grew up around the factory.
George M. CLAPP had a place cleared by the Chattahoochee River where the
horse and mules could get fresh water. He had a plaque erected at the site.

I am part of a preservation group for the CLAPP Factory Cemetery. We are
trying to save what is left of the cemetery [in was 23+ acres. Now less
than 2.]. As part of the process we are trying to gather as much info on
the owners, workers and slaves. So my interest in CLAPP for Julius and
George.
Thanks for letting me share,

Well, there have been a lot of folks subscribing and unsubscribing lately to
the list. I think we should do a little summer check in with each other.
I know there are lot's of folks on vacation right now, but let's share who
our Clapp line is.
I'll upload mine in just a few minutes.

I recently purchased a bunch of old photos while visiting Illinois. One photo shows a younger man and is labeled on the reverse "Willie Clapp". [The writing is light, so the first name may not be Willie.] The photo was taken at the Denshee Photo Studio in Boston, Massachusetts, likely during the 1870s-1880s.
Attached is a copy of the photo. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

Wow, I don't know how closely related I am to this guy, but he sure looks
like te side of the family my Clapp side runs on!
In fact, I have an uncle that is a spitting image of this man!!!

At 1870 or 1865, this could easily be my great great grandfather, William
Tileston Clapp born Boston 1845. The family resemblance to my grandmother
and even myself is certainly there. Without more information to go on, I
could not confirm this, however.
