Do you have an dates or places? That helps to put the names in some kind
of context to know what records are available.

Yes----I am sorry I failed to do that.
*My* Bluford Gore born ca. 1806 TN., son of Thomas and Jane Gore from
SC.--have not seen anything that indicates his name as Richard---but can not
rule it out.
The Matilda Clapp was the daughter of John Ike Clapp and Sarah Loy, who were
married in 1806. If I understand correctly, Matilda was their 3rd child,
making her born in the right time frame.

My Bluford married 2nd in 1837 to a Matilda/Malinda Copeland, in Obion
Co.,TN.
The first marriage would have been about 1831 using the oldest childs age.
So---I am trying to prove whether this Richard Bluford Gore is the same as
my Bluford Gore. Then if they are the same---then Matilda would be the
mother of my Alexander Gore---the eldest child born ca.1832.
Thank you for any help!

Hello everyone!
I am hoping to find info on Matilda Clapp, daughter of John Ike Clapp and Sarah Loy.
Matilda is said to have married a Richard Bluford Gore.
Can anyone tell me from where did the information originate? Is there maybe a family Bible? A probate record?
I believe the Bluford Gore was my 3rdGreatGrandfather. Any help would be so appreciated!

I have just come into possession of the August 1995 edition of True West magazine containing a story entitled John Clapp's GOLD FEVER, by Peter Hildebrandt. This story is an account of John T. Clapp's 1850 trip out West in search of gold. He was born March 12, 1823 in Onondaga County, New York, to Christopher and Lydia Clapp. He married a Miss Rickard and settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She bore him two children, who both died in infancy, before dying. He then married on September 3, 1848 Eliza Rickard, believed to be his former wife's sister.
Although this is not my ancestor, the story is nonetheless fascinating. Anyone searching this line, might find this story to be an asset. Please contact me at clagett(a)pacbell.net if you wish a photocopy of this story.
