I'm trying to trace my family tree but can't get past my gggrandfather, Madison Kelly Clapp, a farmer, b. May 17(?), 1820, d. May 17(?) 1891. He apparently lived all his life in Alamance Co. N.C. On July 17, 1844 he married Nella Gola (Goley?) b. Oct, 2 1821 d. May 13, 1899. Their children:
Leathan Letha A. (Lettie) b. Apr. 23, 1845 d. June 22,1913
Emsley David b. March 19, 1847 d. March 10, 1916 in York Co., N.C. as a Goley
Alston b. Feb. 16,1849 d. ?
Marathon b. Nov. 27, 1854 d.?
Sara Ellen b. March 12, 1857 d.?
Eliza Ann b. Aug 7, 1859 d.?
Julia b. 1862 d.?
Larence age 6 in 1880 census, Alamance . Madison's grandson.
Madison enlisted in the Civil War on April 1, 1862 in Alamance Co. and was in the Company F, 53rd Infantry Regiment, N.C.
I've seen them listed in the 1850, 1870, and the 1880 Alamance Co. census records. Eliza married a Swing and had a daughter, Velna Backstrom ,of Rt.1 Greensboro, N.C. in 1917. Can anyone give me information about Madison's parents, his siblings, or his children? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
