Peggy and List:
This is the closest I have come to having even the possibility of a
connection. I doubt that we have a direct connection but thought I would
respond to see if there might be one somewhere along the line.
My g-g-grandfather William Clapp, born Nov. 28, 1823, in Vermont (although
one census listed him as born in Massachusetts) married Phebe (or Phoebe)
Ann Brott b in Ohio, whose parents were Samuel and ROSETTA Dunn Brott.
William and Phebe were married March 19, 1858, in Havana, Mason County,
Illinois. They eventually divorced. The children I have for William and
Phebe are: Elivra Clapp b. March 03, 1876; Rosa C.Clapp (no birth date or
place) and Mary Jane Clapp b 1862 in Illinois. Mary Jane is my
great-grandmother. She married Peter C. Kutscher Dec. 25, 1879 in Tecumseh,
Johnson County, Nebraska. Phebe also was married at least once more to a
William R. Collins.
1. I don't know about William Clapp's siblings as I haven't found parents
names. So wondered if he possibly could have had sisters.
2. Don't know if I am missing children for William and Phebe Brott Clapp,
and if they might have had a daughter named after Phebe's mother Rosetta
Dunn Brott.
Would need some dates/places for your Clapps to see if this is worth pursuing.
Sincerely,
Kay Chapman in Oregeon

>Hello, I'm trying to find my wife's grandfather, William E Clapp. He died
about 1962-1963 in Colorado County. He purportedly lived out in a rural
area from Columbus, Texas. He was married to Verta Mae Beene (Williams by
her first marriage). Their daughters were Mary Ann and Margaret. I do not
think he remarried and my wife was just a baby in her mother's arms at the
funeral. He might be the William Clapp on the Social Security Death index
who was born in 1888 and died in 1963 in Madison County. His middle name
was Eli/Ely according to one daughter's birth record.
Any information on his line appreciated. Also, any cemetery lookup is
appreciated.

Well, here I am replying to my own message. Further information reveal
that he was born in 1900 and died in 1966 in Colorado County, Texas. He
went by Willie Clapp. Middle name Eli/Ely. He is apparently buried in a
family cemetery with his parents.
