Hi, I am new to the Clapp mailing list and hope someone can help me. I
have found records stating that Aaron, Adolphus and Nathan Clapp were
early settlers of Bennington, Genesee (now Wyoming), New York in a
microfiche of a book called "History of northwestern New York : Erie,
Niagara, Wyoming, Genesee and Orleans counties" by John Theodore Horton.
I found some information on the internet that said Aaron Clapp the son
of Aaron
Clapp was born "April 5, 1748" and I believe he was born in Easthampton,
Massachusetts.
He married and moved to Western New York. This same item lists his
children and the last two are listed simply as Daughter, Daughter. Does
anyone on this list have the names of the children of these men. My
Clapp line has been a very thick brick wall. From the 1810 census I
believe it is probably more likely that Adolphus Clapp would be the
father of my Mary Ann Clapp. Family members have been trying to find
the parents of our Mary Ann Clapp for many many years. Below is what
information I have on Mary Ann.
Mary Ann Clapp married Lyman Simpson. This couple are shown on the 1830
Census as living in Sheldon, Genesee, New York. Two children were born
to this couple in New York and they moved to Illinois where two more
children were born.
>From the 1830 census I estimate Mary Ann Clapp was born between 1800 and
1810. According to family tradition Mary Ann died 10 Feb 1840 Brewster,
Stephenson, Illinois four days after her youngest child was born. I have
not been able to find any records in Stephenson County on this family.
Lyman and all the children but the baby are shown on the DuPage County
Illinois census for 1840.
I have found lots of information for Lyman Simpson after his wife Mary
Ann died but nothing but the 1830 census while they were married. I
would love to break down this brick wall.
Thanks
Marla

I posted awhile back about some confusion concerning my ancestor,Elisha
CLAPP's, dates. Houston Co. Cemetery book lists his dates as 1822-1856. I
obtained a photo of Elisha's marker in Old Lansford/Clapp Cemetery and it
reads as follows:
Captain Elisha CLAPP-Participated in the Battle of San Jacinto-Later a
Captain in the Texas Army-Came to Texas in 1822-Died in 1856. His wife,
Rebecca ROBBINS CLAPP died in 1875. Erected by the State of Texas. 1936.
Several on-line genealogies still carry the incorrect date of 1822 as his
birth.
