This was submitted to The CLANTON Research Center that I created and maintained up to 2000. I am in process of closing that website. I did not want the information lost, so I will be posting those resources here for future "bread crumbs."

Wish we/I had dates on Reuben. I estimated his birth date in 1795. If he died about 3 June 1818, that would only make him 23 yoa. I suppose it is doable time wise, just seems like a "crowded" life.
Happy Hunting!

Virginia, thank you so much for your post. This writer just had the "aha" moment after examining my notes further. I do appreciate your [figuratively speaking] making me wipe the dust out my eyes and to look deeper.
If I can do the same for you, do not hesitate to ask!
Happy Hunting!

No, Susan. I don't know all that much about the Doggett's, except that Reuben was a son of a John Doggett, and had a brother named Garner, and also John, (perhaps the one whose note was paid before due - as shown below). Reuben Doggett seems to have married Betsy Lamkin 1812 in Richmond Co, GA. I do know that Reuben's sister Ann married Sampson Lamkin, so that doesn't surprise me. If I had to guess, I'd say Betsy was Sampson's sister. Turner Clanton married a Luke, and the Luke's also intermarried with the Lamkin's.
I know that Holt Clanton had a daughter named Catherine. But I believe she married Benjamin Paull, and he didn't die until about 1845. But I have to wonder if perhaps Reuben was her first husband (as Reuben's 2nd wife)?? Perhaps Betsy Lamkin Doggett died not long after the marriage? Just a thought, but don't have anything to prove it one way or the other!
Thanks, good hunting to you, as well! Virginia

Virginia, THANK YOU so much for your post. This is not my direct line, but I have interest.
Was there any indication as to relationship/kinship of Holt Clanton and Catherine Dogget in the article you cited from June 3, 1818, Augusta Chronicle?
Thanks!
Happy Hunting!
