A fair overview of the career of Gen. Clanton and of his family, including letters, is in: Edward Pattillo, Carolina Planters on the Alabama Frontier, NewSouth Press, 2011. This includes material on his brother, Dr. Albert Berry Clanton, who was married in Tallassee, Alabama, to a daughter of Gen. James Gilmer. The book also covers the children of Gen. Clanton's half-brothers and sisters, children of Sarah Ann Robeson, and the Abercrombie family of his wife, Parthenia.
