You are a 3rd cousin 4 times removed of Newman Haynes Clanton of the Clanton Gang. You are 2nd great-grandnephew of James Holt Clanton for whom Clanton, Alabama was named. Can you identify the signer of the Declaration of Independence to whom you refer? You may contact me direct at lviney(a)centurytel.net for further information and correspondence. I have further information about your grandfather's family.

Hi,
I saw your post from 2003. I hope this gets to you.
My mother was a Clanton from Montgomery, Alabama. I was always told that her father, Arthur Clanton was related to both the Clanton gang, and a General Clanton in the Civil War for which the town of Clanton, Alabama was named. Also, I was told that he was related to a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Georgia. The only information I have on my grandfather, Arthur, was that his mother's name was Lilly, he lived his whole life in Montgomery, served in WWI, worked for the rail road, and post office. He died in the 1960s. His wife's name was Margret, "Peggy Jean". My mother's name was Margret. She married my father, Clifford A. Geers, of Cincinnati, Ohio. I am Clifford A. Geers Jr. "Tony" age 66.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
