There is a story in my family regarding my GGGgrandfather, William M. Hall. Upon his deathbed in Hominy in 1947, he confessed to being Ike Clanton of the famed Clanton Gang. After some research, I though it was unlikely that he could have been Ike Clanton, but his granddaughter insists that he was telling the truth. He reportedly told all his grandchildren stories about train robberies in such detail (who was there, where people were standing, etc..) that they feel it is hard to disbelieve his claim. I spoke with a grandson and he said the way he always heard the story is that he claimed to be the son of Ike Clanton. Did Ike Clanton have any children, known or illegitimate?
Another story is that he killed a man, supposedly in retaliation for murdering his brother, and his mother and sister begged him to leave before he was hanged. He left never to return. All I know of this man is that he was extremely secretive- noone ever seen his family and he never spoke of his family except one comment about his mother being Cherokee.
My grandmother and I compared pics of him and Ike Clanton, as well as handwriting samples, and the similarity is really very uncanny. Since there is no way to prove this story, with the exception of DNA testing, I would really like to disprove it. If anyone has info on Ike Clanton or have heard a similar story, please, reply. I have visited the Clanton website and know that Terry "Ike" Clanton believes he has found Ike's grave, but there seems to be some misgivings whether or not it really is Ike's grave. Thanks, Sarah Oh! I know he had a sister.

The information I have shows David wife as being Caroline. I've been told her last name was Terrell, but I don't know that for a fact. David's parents would have been John & Rebecca Clanton of Kershaw County, SC.

I'm descended from Daniel Sidney Clanton through John Daniel Clanton. I have lots of info about the Clantons - but nearly nothing on Sarah Mae Clanton Bacon. Would you be willing to share the vitals on her, especially when and where she died and where she is buried? I'd love to have info on her children as well. I'll be glad to share any information I have.
