Hello Karen, Here is our mother's mother's updated direct line:
Moytoy 1 (B: ~1687, Chota, City of Refuge, Cherokee Nation, NC; D: ~1770; Parents: Father: Amatoya Moytoy (B: ~1640, Chota) and Mother: Quatsy (B:~1650, Tellico, TN) and Woman of the Wild Potato Clan (B: ~1686)
(Some say that Amatoya Moytoy & Quatsy were Oconostota's parents... while others say that they were really Oconostota's grandparents. And, others say that his parents were Father: Smallpox Conjuror of Tellico and Mother: Aganunitsi Quatie. Aganunitsi's (B:~1680) parents were Father: Chief Moytoy I (Amadohiyi) of Chota (B; ~1640) and Mother: Quatsi of Tellico, Wolf Clan (B: ~1650). And, another says that his parents were Father: (Amadohiyi) Moytoy II (B: 1687 at Tellico,East Cherokee Nation; D: 1771) and Mother: Woman of Deer Clan (B: 1680 at Cherokee Nation; D:?))
(Since Oconostota had a daughter by Woman of (Chickamauaga Cherokee) Wolf Clan... more than likely that his mother was not Quatsi of Tellico, Wolf Clan (B: ~1650) because one did not by tradition marry one from the same clans of his parents and grandparents.)
Woman of (Chickamauaga Cherokee) Wolf Clan (B:~1704) and Oconostota (Oconostota: Clan: Ani'-Ga'tâge'wi = Kituah or Wild Potato (Wa-Wli Vann), ~1704, Tanasee-March 1783)
Jennie of (Chickamauaga Cherokee) Wolf Clan (B:~1726) and Johann Conrad (~1720 - ~1754)
Nathan Hicks, and English Trader settled with the Cherokees before the American Revolution (B: 06 Nov 1743, VA) and married ~ 1758 Na'Ye'Hi/'Na'Ne'He'/Nancy Wolf of the Chickamauga Cherokee Wolf Clan, B: ~1743, Cherokee Nation, GA)
Elizabeth Hicks and Eliphus/Eliphas Holt/Hold
James Nathaniel Holt and Abbigail Clanton (Great aunt of Ike and Billy Clanton, OK Corral Tombstone AZ)
Drury Holt and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Rogers
Martha Holt and Joseph R. Ryan
Drury/Drewry Ryan and Sena (Sina or Serena) Ann Walker
Rachel Ryan and Thomas Kinslow
William Paul Kinslow and Rose Cecilia Dougherty
(William Paul Kinslow always said that his mother was descended from a Cherokee Chief.)
Rosanne 'Rose' Gertrude Kinslow and William C. Linder
my mom and dad
(Mom had always told us ever since we could understand that her maternal great-grandmother was descended from a Cherokee Chief. And, dad had always told us about his Cherokee blood. Both were proud of their heritage. I grew up knowing about Grandfather Above and Grandmother Above and about the herbs that made medicine for what ailed us.)

Hello Karen. Well it is wonderful meeting new cousin. Please let me know how we connect... so we can see if we connect in more than one way.
Karen, on my most recent trip down to KY... wow I came home with a lot of research. I spoke to some way distant kin whose family knew my family and related kin. What a blessing. Much of this is not documentated... just handed down stuff. I'll have to now try to document as much as I can.
I just learned that our dad's COBBS/COBB family also knew the DRAPERs and INGLES of Draper's Meadow VA and surrounding communities as did my mother's side... eerie huh? My James COBB (a son of a mixed-blood) married Sarah Ann BEACH (a Cherokee mixed-blood). Sarah Ann (BEACH) COBB was related to the INGLES family. Sometimes their BEACH surname was seen as BENCH... which was also very Cherokee surname. Mary DRAPER INGLES' brother was John DRAPER was great friends with William INGLES.
Now, here is what I have just learned about on my mother's mother's KINSLOW line... my Chickamauga Cherokee Wolf Clan...
I also learned more about some more of ole Oconostota's descendents... my WALKER ancestors and their related families... this too may be of interest to you considering how far back we connect. We now know that our "Jesse WALKER", husband of Rachel Cherry is aka William 'Jesse' WALKER. William Jesse WALKER is 1/2 Cherokee. His mother was Katherine 'Kate' LONG who was full Cherokee and his father was William WALKER. William Jesse WALKER also had a brother names James WALKER. William Jesse WALKER knew and fought along with Willam Brannon BALL and William CRISPIN in the Civil War. William Jesse WALKER was in the Civil War and fought in the Infantry. At one time we fought with the Alabama Infantry. It has been said that he was about 5'3" in stature, was thin, had a ruddy complection and coal black hair, he had a long sharp nose and narrow chin. William Jesse WALKER's brother James WALKER had a daughter who married Josiah 'Josh' BRINKLEY. They had 5 sons... two of which !
were Tom and George. There was a cousin somewhere named Jeff BRINKLEY. Katherine 'Kate' LONG's parents were full blood Cherokees out of the North Hills of NC and only had Indian names. Her mother was Wolf Clan and her father was Bird Clan. She was known to carry a Stealite Blackstone Pipe in a bag of some kind. Her father was shot by the whites and accused of stealing. Katherine 'Kate' LONG's husband was William WALKER and went by John WALKER. John WALKER's parents were both Indians from the North Hills of NC. Katherine 'Kate' LONG and her husband William 'John' WALKER came out of the North Hills of NC to the lands there in south central KY. We find their descendents in Whitley and Knox counties.
My DRAPER cousins are out of Mary DRAPER INGLES' line and also out of Willam Brannon BALL's line which eventually these two lines intermarried... and they both connect to Dragging Canoe. And, we have BEANs on dad's side... Dragging Canoe's cousin was Charley Littlecorn... aka Charley Bean. Charley Littlecorn was living around the time of the American Reveloution and was killed by the Creeks... he was Cherokee.
The older I get, the smaller this world of ours gets. The more people that I connect with, once we checked, we found out that we are related somehow. It is awesome how The One Above makes this happen... it's like He is helping us find our way back home... to our roots.
My DRAPER cousins often visit their best friends in KY and one of Joyce's ancestor's kin named Josiah COMBS talked about the KY COBBS/COBBs. I am not sure if I directly connect to the KY COBBS/COBBs yet or not... but here is another connection... eerie huh?
Well, it is not so hard to believe and see why Dragging Canoe, Mary DRAPER INGLES, DRAPER kin, and other INGLES kin also knew my family once you remember that Dragging Canoe was Oconostota's nephew and the DRAPERS moved up from VA where my COBBS/COBB to KY where my WALKERs and RYANs were. My WALKERs and RYANs were also either full-blood Cherokees and/or mixed Cherokees. Drury RYAN is descended from Oconostota.
In doing some family research recently and talking to an old family elder, I learned that ole Nathaniel HOLT also went by James Nathaniel HOLT/James HOLT. We just knew him as Nathaniel... while the records and others knew him as James HOLT.
My WALKERs and RYANs were also either full-blood Cherokees and/or mixed-blood Cherokees. Drury RYAN is descended from Oconostota.
I am out of the Chickamauga Cherokee Wolf Clan on mom's mother's side the Chickamauaga Bird Clan on dad's mother's side. Some cousins say that we also have some Twister/LongHair (AR), some Blue Holly, and some Bear/Wild Potato Clans as well. Some of dad's cousins say that we are also Creek-Seminole, Muscogee, Catawba, Calusa, Shawnee, Napuchee, and Narragansett.
So far, I only have my mom's mother's side Chickamauga Cherokee Wolf Clan traced way back with out any missing. Mom's side always said that Rachel Ryan was descended from a Cherokee Chief's line. With the help of some of my cousins.. we can now trace back to Oconostota through Elizabeth Hicks, daughter of Nathan Hicks and his wife Na'Ye'Hi' of the Chickamauga Cherokee Wolf Clan. Dad's mother's side doesn't go back as far... perhaps because they were mostly Indian and less documented. We can directly trace back dad's dad's Cobbs/Cobb side... back to the 1200s in Kent England and back to 1664 in Colonial Williamsburg-Bruton Parish VA here in America. Over the generations... the Cobbs/Cobb men did intermarry with either full-bloods or mixed-blood Native American women. Some we know what tribal affiliation, while others not.
We are directly... without missing a beat descended from the ole Chickamauga War Chief Oconostota himself and that makes us kin of ole Chickamauga War Chief Dragging Canoe. And, because Elizabeth (Hicks) Holt was first married to the Cherokee Chief James Vann... that makes us kin of their children and descendents. Elizabeth (Hicks) Holt's brothers William Hicks and Charles Renatus Hicks were also Cherokee Chiefs and I know some of their descendents as well. I also know some of Oconostota's descendents as well.
Nathan Hicks connects with Thomas Kinslow... my maternal great,great-grandfather.
My connection to Nathan Hicks and his wife Na' Ye' Hi' is down some to Drury Ryan and his wife Sena Ann Walker... through their daughter Rachel Ryan and her husband THOMAS KINSLOW. Thomas and Rachel (Ryan) Kinslow are my pop-pop - William Kinslow's parents. William Paul Kinslow married Rose Dougherty and one of their many children was my mother's mother... Rosanne "Rose" Kinslow married William Linder... my maternal grandparents.

Hi Delores,
Well, I would say that we are cousins and a cousin of Laura's husband, also. I'll have to pull out my cousin chart and figure it out.
One stumper for me has been the father of Nathaniel...some think it was Thomas Holt. I haven't gotten heavy into that search yet. I couldn't find a paper trail.
The other stumper is finding proof of who Amy Wyche's parents were. I know James is mentioned the most, but I have searched quite a bit and can't find any proof. Henry Wyche seems to be her grandfather, but that's not proven either. I think James had a dau, Amy, but she married a different man. I have traced that long, royal line down to Henry Wyche but can't find the link to connect him to Abigail's mother. I'd say there is a link, but it hasn't been located yet.
The name Eliphus certainly was given to a few of Nathaniel and Abby's descendants. Where did you find Eliphus Holt's pedigree? That would be interesting to study.
Which group of Holt's do you think Eliphus came from? There are gobs of Nathaniel Holts up in the New England states. I wonder if they are kin to the Holts in Surry & Sussex Co, VA?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
My line is as follows:
Nathaniel Holt - Abigail Clanton
Drury Holt - Elizabeth Rogers
Thomas Holt - Cintha Watters
"Jenny" Jane Holt - Elisha Stephens
Susannah J. Stephens - 2nd sp. William M. Hammons
Martha "Mat" Hammons - 2nd. Geo. Fyan Denney "Doc"
Vivian Denney - Geo. Henry Roe
Arline Roe - Voyne Cull
Karen Cull - Rt. Serna
I'm the only one of that list who is still living. Does that mean I'm next?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It does seem that Thomas Rogers was Eliz. Rogers Holt's father. Is that what you have?
I can't get passed Cintha on my Watters line. I know that Susannah J. Stephens said that she was part Black Creek or Black Foot. She was my grandmother's grandmother.
When my grandmother was a very, little girl, one of her aunts (dau of Susannah) told her that she was part Indian. For a time, my grandma was afraid of her aunt as she had heard many stories about settlers and Indians fighting....that lasted until she was told that if the aunt was part Indian, so was my grandmother. That settled her down.
So, I don't know what relative of Susannah's was Indian. Maybe more than she knew.
Her mother, Jane "Jenny" Holt Stephens, had a brother named Eliphus Holt. They were the children of Thomas Holt and Cintha Watters.
