I also descend from David Clanton & Elizabeth Ligon. Thier son John Clanton/Amelia (Milly) Clayton, John Jr. Clanton?/Rebecca, John J. Clanton/Sarah Perry-Clanton, Perry Clanton/Martha Hargett, Joseph Clanton/Delilah Catherine Jackson, Oren Clanton/Ruth Kennedy and then myself.
John J. and Sarah Perry Clanton had 8 children one of them being Sarah J. Clanton who is believed to married and moved to Arkansas. Sarah J. was born abt. 1847 in Kershaw County, SC, but was was in Cherokee County, AL with parents and siblings in the 1850 Census. Then she appears on the 1860 census with Mother and siblings in St. Clair County, AL . After the 1860 census, I have been unable to find her. I am trying to find descendants of all the siblings of my ggrandfather Perry P. Clanton.
Hello!
My name is Michael Clanton, and I have been
trying to figure out my family tree on my dad's side.
He died when I was young, and the remaining family
didn't have a lot of information.
I was hoping someone on this list might have more
information to add to what I have already.
My dad is Jerry Lee Clanton (b. 1/28/1949-
d. 4/9/1977) and married Peggy Lee Lewis. They had two
children Cherie Kay Clanton (b. 1972) and Michael John
Clanton (b. 1975).
My grandfather is John Henry Clanton (b.
8/10/1906-d. 10/13/1980), and he married Mayda Juanita
Brown. In addition to Jerry Clanton they had a
daughter Evelyn Louise Clanton (Swanson) (b.
11/13/1940- d. 7/28/1994).
My great-grandfather is James Wesley Clanton
(b. 1864 or 1868- d. 1938) he married Texana "Texie"
Lowe (b. 1875- d. 1952). Their children were Effie J.
Clanton (Threet/ Johnson) (b. 1900 or 1901- d. 1972),
Bessie O. Clanton (b. 1909 or 1910- d. ???) and John
H. Clanton (above).
My great-great grandfather is John B. Clanton.
(b. 1829 or 1830- d. 1903?).
I have very little information on John B. He was
possibly from Pine Knob, NC. He may have been born and
died there. He was a 1st Lieutenant, Co E, 11 Bethel
Regiment North Carolina Infantry (CSA).
Confusingly enough, there are also a couple of
forms that say "1st Lt, Co. E Pettigrew Brigade" and
that he was captured at Gettysburg and died July, 28.
1863 from wounds he received at Gettysburg on July 1,
1863.
The 1863 death date conflicts with the birth
dates of all his children, so I'm not sure what to
make of that information. All the info I have for John
B. came in a packet from the General Services
Administration National Archives and Records Service.
I will greatly appreciate any help or information
you can give.
Michael

see my other post. Actually I"m thinking he was my husband's great grandfather, not grandfather. I think he was born in 1920, have a picture with his parents in it also. On the back of the picture it says Grandma and Grandpa Clanton, Aunt Bell , Uncle Ralada (sp?) around 1945.

Did you ever trace Childress H. Clanton? I believe that he was my late husband's grandfather. His mother didn't talk much about him, but their family all lived around Wheelock. I'd be interested in anything you found out about him. I have pictures of him.
