I have a different Clanton line than what is mentioned in your homepage.
My line goes back to Edward Clanton and Sarah Evans Clanton in Brunswick
and Surry County, Virginia. Since putting a query on your webpage I have
received the information back to the Virginia Clantons from several
differents sources. This is four more generations than I knew before!
Thanks for the service.
I have a book on the Clantons decended from Edward through Thomas and
Benjamin to Edward, born in Adams County, Illinois, to his daughter Ruth.
It tells of her marriage to Caleb Clark of Allegheny County, New York and
their descendents in Madison County, Iowa. This book is entitled HISTORY
OF THE CLARK FAMILY OF MAIDSON COUNTY, IOWA and was published in 1937. It
was edited by Ada M. Hoots, a descendent of Caleb and Ruth Clanton Clark,
who is presumably desceased. This book is 34 pages long and tells of the
children and their descendents of the Clarks, early-American Clarks, and
many stories about pioneer life on the "Hoosier Prairie" in Madison County.
I'd be glad to offer this information if you think it would be an addition
to your website. It also tells of Edward Clanton's other children besides
Ruth, who also located in Iowa.

In 1866, the state of West Virginia minted a medal for each of the
soldiers who participated in the Civil War. Originally, 26,099 were
minted and many given to the soldier himself. However, the state was
unable to find all the veterans, leaving the medal unclaimed. In fact,
there are still about 5,200 which have not been claimed and presented to
the families of these veterans. The WV Archives are working to locate
the descendants of these soldiers.
The claim process is simple:
1. Go to the site, read about the medals and check the list.
2. If one of the names on the list matches your ancestor, follow the claim
submission process detailed at the site.
3. They will work with you to verify your claim, and if validated you could
receive the
medal on behalf of your ancestor.
Simple as that, here's the site:

Good Luck!
Hi everyone,
Some of you may or may not have noticed a new edition to some of the website
pages. A "robot" has been added to pages that change with some frequency.
The "robot" is at the bottom of pages just above the "Footer" (i.e., where the
name of the page, my name, and the URL for that page appear). You may use the
form to send you email address to the "robot" and you will be informed
automatically by email when that page is changed.
Hope all had a safe holiday.
Enjoy the additions and Happy Hunting!

I am looking for info on my 6th great grandparents, Sarah Clanton and James
Patty/Paty/Patey. I spell his surname three diff ways because I have found it
spelled three diff ways. I'm not quite sure where they were from (VA, I
think). I am descended from their son Jesse Patty and Sarah West. All info is
appreciated.

Reply-to: bsanchez(a)usa.net (bsanchez(a)usa.net)
Fellow Internet Users,
I received the FCC message after a long line of forwarded messages.
Like me, some of you may have thought that this message referred
to the circulated Internet rumor of a proposed "FCC modem tax." I
decided to check it out by going to the FCC homepage. Eventually I
found the pertinent information at the following web site:
http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Common_Carrier/Factsheets/ispfact.html
Please note that the "modem tax" referred to a proposal in 1987 to
require enhanced service providers (such as ISPs) to pay interstate
access charges, which at that time were "significantly higher than
they are today." The 1987 proposal was abandoned in 1988. The
current Access Reform proceeding is entirely separate, and the FCC
has specifically proposed not to require enhanced service providers
to pay access charges.
It is true that the FCC is seeking public comment on whether ISPs
should be charged access charges similar to those of long-distance
companies. You should note that the FCC's initial proposal is that
ISPs should NOT be required to pay current access charges, but
the Commission has made no final decisions.
I should point out here that the FCC is requesting both formal and
informal public comments. The e-mail address given below is only
for informal public comments (mailto:isp@fcc.gov). If you would like
to make formal comments, you can deliver or mail five (5) copies to:
Federal Communications Commission
Office of the Secretary
1919 M Street, NW, Room 239
Washington, D.C. 20554
Your comments must include the following docket numbers:
96-262, 94-1, 91-213, and 92-253. More information on filing formal
comments is available on the FCC web site at http://www.fcc.gov/ccb/.
I am opposed to the current proposal. The FCC has expressed
concern about the effects that imposition of access charges could
have on the competitive ISP marketplace, and also noted that the Internet
would likely not have grown so rapidly in recent years if most users had
been required to pay per-minute rates for Internet access. At the same time,
local telephone companies have argued that per-minute rates would more
accurately reflect the costs that ISPs impose on the network, and would
provide sufficient revenues to fund network upgrades needed to more
efficiently
handle data traffic.
I urge everyone to submit comments and get those you know to submit
comments as well. The deadline for the comments is Saturday, February
14, 1998, NOT February 13th as noted below.
Thanks for reading this,
Benjamin K. Sanchez, J.D.

Hi Susan,
In Robert B. Clanton's book on page 107 he has listed the children of
William Wills CLANTON & Mary "Polly" THORNTON as:

There is much more data on these folks in the book but this will get you
started. The GRIGGS and the CLANTONs intertwine again.
Roland THORNTON was the father of "Polly" THORNTON. Who was her mother & can
you supply dates?__________________ Thanks inadvance............
Hi Clanton Rooters,
I was trying to organize my mountains of paper last night and realized
that I had promised a Thornton cousin's wife that I would try to see if
anyone had a list of children for William CLANTON and Mary (Polly)
THORNTON. I have my great grandfather, Jesse Roland Clanton, but no
siblings that I can find in my piles of paper.
I have some information on the Thorntons now if anyone is interested or
wants to compare notes.
Thanks and Happy New Year.
Susan Clanton (Simpson)
Hi:
Do not know how to contact Susan Clanton Simpson so hoping she gets
this. If you do I have info on William Clanton's children, siblings and
parents and will be happy to share info with you. You can e-mail me at:
skyla(a)sasquatch.com
My computer program is having problems so can read no attachments and
cannot check out anything on the internet, but can send and receive
e-mail (just can't receive attachments to e-mail). But if you write me
I can send you info going back several generations. Back to an Edward
Clanton who died 1741 Brunswick County, Virginia. The genealogies
beyond that have never been documented to my knowledge and probably more
like wishful thinking connecting Edward to another Edward to a Marmaduke
to a John Clanton who came to Virginia from England in 1635. They are
all probably connected and we probably do descend from that John, but if
anyone on the Clanton web can show me any proof to these earlier
genealogies, please do. Anyway, Susan Clanton Simpson, if you receive
this please contact me and I can help with your questions.
How do you descend from Jesse Roland Clanton....I have some info on
his descendents but do not find your name. My brother and I met some of
his descendents back in the late 1970's while researching in Virginia.
Tom.

I am writing you this to inform you of a very important matter
currently under review by the FCC. Your local telephone company has
filed a proposal with the FCC to impose per minute charges for your
internet service. They contend that your usage has or will hinder the
operation of the telephone network.
It is my belief that internet usage will diminish if users were
required to pay additional per minute charges. The FCC has created an
email box for your comments, responses must be received by February
13, 1998. Send your comments and tell them what you think.

Every phone company is in on this one, and they are trying to sneak it

I'm going backwards alphabetically by county on this series. These are
taken from the Quissenberry records and from Collins' History. Information
includes soldier's name, rank, where served, date pension applied for, when
pension was granted (often backdated), the amount of pension, age and/or
date of death when shown. There were several times when the government
offered these pensions and the information varies. If only one date
appears, pension began at that time.
