Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi everyone--
As with all of you, there are somethings that are a continuing learning
experience for me. I did not realize that hypertext does not always transfer
to the rest of the list (ie: non-AOL users). My apologies of the oversight.

Hi everyone--
Just an added note on this the last day of James Holt CLANTON as our featured
CLANTON of the Month.
On the way home this morning on the radio there was a news item about
Knoxville haunted buildings. It was mentioned that what is now known as the
Bijou Theatre here in Knoxville is believed to be haunted by two possible
souls that died at this site when it was an Mansion. General Sanders was one
and the other our "beloved" James Holt CLANTON. The personality speaking of
this has written a book and I will try to see if I can get my hands on this
mentioned book and see what he might have written on the subject.
Thought it to be an interesting ending note and this the last day of this
featured article(s).

Hi everyone--
The webring has been updated and is now working. Feel free to do some
surfing, if you like. Use the icon on the right side of the table to take
you to the next genealogy website on the ring and each site should have a
similar site that will move you to another genealogy site on the connected
ring.
I will updating the website on Saturday morning as soon as I get home from
work with November holiday graphics and other updated information. I hope to
get motivated to add more soon, this nasty thing called life interferes to
much! :)
Happy Halloween to all--don't let those ghostly CLANTONs haunt you toooooo
much!

There was a Harmon Russell Clanton, son of Nicholas Stewart Clanton and
Mary Russell, born September 1841 in Montgomery County, Missouri.
Nicholas was brother to our 3rd great grandfather John Meglamre
Clanton. Harmon was with the Confederate Army on the Arizona frontier
and after the war was a miner in Maricopa County, Arizona (1880) and we
loose him after 1900 when he was a miner in Leadville, Lake County,
Colorado. He was married to Winnie, born January 1852 in England. They
had no children. Does anybody know what became of him after 1900?
Thanks, Tom and Jim Goldrup.

Hi everyone--
It was brought to my attention not all might understand the concept of
webrings.
Webrings are a services (most free of charge) that link similar websites
together. This makes you able to "surf" the Net and be able to look a
different sites with the same theme. In our case, GenRing is a genealogy
based webring.
VU (Virtual University) just started a class on "Introduction to Online
Genealogy." Three lessons have been posted. There is no cost, unless you
would like to receive a certificate of completion. All this is covered at
the website. Learning
Network: Channel 33 (Introduction to...
I read the lessons on creating a genealogy webpage and look at our website!
Needless to say, the lessons are good point in the right direction for those
interested.

Hello CLANTON Researchers--
Since 10 people out of the approximately 50 people that are subscribed to the
list have voiced their opinion about the proposal of Rootsweb making our
posting to our list available on the web, I somehow think that not everyone
understands what this means.
PROS--
Some of the pros of this proposal would be more exposure to the Internet
world and whole genealogy community. The more eyes that see our material,
the more chances of finding that long lost cousin and answering some of those
unanswered questions.
CONS--
The worse con that comes to mind is someone using the information in these
files to publish an article or more that might not be fully researched.
Prime example could be the World Family project by Family Tree Maker that
would capture information and include in this project without permission.
(This could happen without Rootweb intervention since the information in
question is included on our website in the Archives section.)
With my changing webrings, this should give our website more exposure. This
could be translated from the 200+ hits we have encountered in almost a
month's time period to nearly 300+ hits in a one month's time period.
My original question was whether YOU (CLANTON Researcher(s)) think we should
let our message(s) be available to all (the whole Internet community)? Or
whether I should request they (Rootsweb) not be put our message(s) on the
web? Or whether I should put the message(s) on CLANTON Web in the Archives
section for consumption of those interested in CLANTON genealogy or just
happen through from the webring?
Those of you who have responded previously need not respond again, but I
would really like to hear from the "rest of the population."

Hi everyone--
I was trying to surf the net with the GenePool Webring that I had subscribed
to and found it flustrating when I got to a site did not have the continuity
to move to the next site. So, I went on a hunting spree...tried Genring and
was able to continue through at least 20 sites without a "broken" link.
I had sent mail to Chris Pilgrim, GenePool's Ringmaster, and as of this
mailing have not received a reply to my concerns. So, I changed. My
apologies for the inconvenience, it will probably take a couple of days to be
added to the "ring". Hope everyone enjoys the change.

Regarding the marriage found for a Clanton girl to Wickliffe:
I have never responded to any of the digests, so please excuse me if I am
not doing this correctly. This marriage is that of my
great-great-grandparents and it was actuated in Benton county, Missouri. I
don't know why it was advertised in Boone county except for the Bible
inscriptions. Jane Clanton was the daughter of Benjamin G. Clanton and wife,
Jane, who are listed on the 1850 census of Benton co, Mo. I have never found
a marriage for them. They were in North Carolina because of births of their
children, but evidently went through Illinois before coming to Benton co, Mo.
I have never been able to determine exactly who the parents of John Thomas
Wickliff were, but he lived out his entire adulthood east of Warsaw in the
Turkey Creek community of Benton Co, Mo. Jane died and he then married to a
Mrs. Laura Lavinia Cresey and they had a number of children. My
great-grandmother was one of his first children by Jane Clanton. After Laura
died, he again remarried, but is not known to have had any children by her.
My mother and I found his grave about 8 years ago and the tombstone is only
inscribed JTW. One submitter to the LDS Ancestral Files submission gives
John's name as John THISMOCK Wickliff. I don't know where they got that
because he is said to have gone by Tom Wickliff. My grandfather was his
grandson and he was raised amongst all of this family. Other Clanton
researchers have been said to have found Benjamin's connection to the other
Clantons, but to this date I do not have any of that information. I am
willing to exchange our data by gedcom and e-mail with others interested.

Hi everyone--
Par for course, I did not get done what I wanted to accomplish, but it will
have to wait.
I am escaping to the mountains later today, 16 Oct 1997. I will not be to
far from the house and may check in due to computer withdrawls, but it is my
plan to soak in the scenery and become a tourist in the Gatlinburg, Cade's
Cove area and blend into the background. I will be gone no more than eight
days, due back to work on Friday, 24 Oct 1997, so we will have to come in to
readjust our body clocks to the "nite owl" thing.
Enough of personal information...Pat Hall has graciously accepted to back me
up while I am away. If there is a major problem that cannot wait till my
return, please make her aware of the problem. She can be contacted at
PHHGENE(a)aol.com.
Thanks for all your contributions and support. Have a wonderful week. Maybe
by Christmas (hinting to Santa for a Snappy Board) I can share some pictures
from my vacation.

This inquiry was posted to our Guestbook. I am passing this on for comments
and theories from the group.
My grandmother was Flora Clanton from Big Spring, Texas. She is descended
from William Clanton of England. William Clanton came to the colonies in
1637 and settled in the Suffolk, Virginia area. Just curious to know if this
is part of the same clan.

My daughter & I had just finished a salad at Neiman-Marcus Cafe in Dallas &
decided to have a small dessert. Because both of us are such cookie lovers,
we decided to try the "Neiman-Marcus Cookie."
{EDITORIAL COMMENT: Neiman's is a VERY EXPENSIVE department store in the
States}.
It was so excellent that I asked if they would give me the recipe and the
waitress said with a small frown, "I'm afraid not."
Well, I said, would you let me buy the recipe? With a cute smile, she said,
"Yes." I asked how much, and she responded, "Only two fifty, it's a great
deal!" I said with approval, just add it to my tab.
Thirty days later, I received my VISA statement from Neiman-Marcus and
it was $285.00. I looked again and I remembered I had only spent $9.95 for
two salads and about $20.00 for a scarf. As I glanced at the bottom of the
statement, it said, "Cookie Recipe - $250.00"
That's outrageous!!
I called Neiman's Accounting Dept. and told them the waitress said it was
"two-fifty," which clearly does not mean "two hundred and fifty dollars" by
any *POSSIBLE* interpretation of the phrase.
Neiman-Marcus refused to budge. They would not refund my money, because
according to them, "What the waitress told you is not our problem. You have
already seen the recipe - we absolutely will not refund your money at this
point." I explained to her the criminal statutes which govern fraud in
Texas, I threatened to refer them to the Better Business Bureau and the
State's Attorney General for engaging in fraud. I was basically told, "Do
what you want, we don't give a crap, and we're not refunding your money." I
waited, thinking of how I could get even, or even try and get any of my
money
back. I just said, "Okay, you folks got my $250, and
now I'm going to have $250.00 worth of fun." I told her that I was going to
see to it that every cookie lover in the United States with an e-mail
account
has a $250.00 cookie recipe from Neiman-Marcus...for free.
She replied, "I wish you wouldn't do this." I said, "Well, you should have
thought of that before you ripped me off," and slammed down the phone on
her.
So here it is!!! Please, please, please pass it on to everyone you can
possibly think of. I paid $250 for this...I don't want Neiman-Marcus to
ever
get another penny off of this recipe....
(Recipe may be halved)
2 cups butter
4 cups flour
2 tsp. soda
2 cups sugar
5 cups blended oatmeal (Measure oatmeal and blend in a blender to a fine
powder.)
24 oz. chocolate chips
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1- 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated)
4 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups chopped nuts (your choice)
Cream the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla; mix together with
flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add chocolate chips, Hershey
Bar and nuts. Roll into balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 112 cookies.

The purpose of the CLANTON Mailing List is to band together those who research the CLANTON surname, so that we can share experiences, examine sources, give advice, make suggestions that others may find the information they are seeking.
