Cousins:
Found this site which might come in handy in determining
whether the email stories you receive are true. Seems to be
pretty complete information on Urban Legends & Folklore
to determine if they are true or false. Cousin Jim

Cousins,
I sent an email a few weeks ago and I'm not sure everyone
or anyone got it.
We are all settled in and almost everything put away.

Cousins,
Here are some places to look at information on Albert
Sidney Johnston and relatives.
http://www.trader-skis.com/generals/confederate_generals/p/preston_w.htm
Then Click on either Albert Sidney Johnson or in the lower left find HOME,
then find 'Generals' at top center and go to any officer.
http://www.uky.edu/LCC/HIS/dolphstuff.html Especially look at,
"Howard - Wickliffe - Preston Genealogical Tree in Kentucky" at
upper left square. Go down to "William T. Preston and Caroline
Hancock" and find Albert Sidney Johnston's family. Also, look at
"William C. Preston and Margaret Preston Wickliffe" she is the
one this research is on.
Not much else to report. Cousin Jim
Cousins,
Received this first part from Cousin Doug Clanin re: William P.
Johnston
General Albert Sydney Johnston's son. [See Albert Sydney Johnston on
pages 189-190 of the Clanin book.] Albert Sydney is my 2nd cousin
3 times removed. At least that is what Fam Tree Maker says. Albert's
mother was Abigail Harris, daughter of Edward Harris, who was the
Uncle and guardian of Samuel Harris Clanin. Albert isn't a real close
relative.
"From the 'Baltimore American and Commercial Advertiser,
5 August 1865: Colonel William P. Johnston, a son of the late
General Albert Sidney Johnston, and, until the close of the war,
Aide to Jeff Davis, has been released from Fort Delaware by order
of President Johnson. There are only two Confederate prisoners
now remaining at Fort Delaware, one of them being Col. Lubbock,
of Texas, also an Aide to Davis, and the Private Secretary of the
latter, Burton N. Harrison.
Found this additional information.
William Preston Johnston (1831-1899) In addition to his vocation
of sonneteer, Johnston was a Confederate soldier, lawyer, and
educator. The son of Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston. Born in Kentucky,
William Preston Johnston became a colonel in the Confederate
army at the beginning of the Civil War and served on the staff of
Jefferson Davis. After the war he was a professor at Washington
and Lee University until November, 1880 when he became
president of Louisiana State University. On the foundation of
Tulane University in New Orleans in 1884, he became its first
president. (Thanks to McGowan Book Company for this
information.) For Sonnets See: http://www.sonnets.org/johnstonw.htm
