Hay,
I goofed. The Census was for Kootenai County, Idaho. The town of
Kootenai is located in Bonner County, but Kootenai County is the county
just south of Bonner County. Hope you are as confused as I.
Jim
Hello everyone!
Does anyone recoganize these Clanins. Benj. and Susanna would have
been born ca. 1858, and Lorenzo ca. 1886. I have a Benj. Melvin born 1859
in IL. Have a Benjamin Franklin Clanin, Jr. b: 1846 in IA. married to a
Susannah Waller b: 1852. These don't fit. Also, strange that there was a
Clanin born in OH in 1858. Not that I go to the bank on census information.
Kootenai is in Bonner County in upper Idaho panhandle. Thompson was in
Wisconsin and Benjamin Franklin Clanin, Jr. was living with him in the 1870
census, Richland Co., WI. This Benj is not listed in 1870 census as a son
of Thompson. He had a daugter born in 1858. If I find more, will advise.

Hello everyone, since I know none of you by name, except Jim, please excuse me lumping all of you together. Hopefully, I will one day hear from you all.
My Clanin ancestral line goes as follows:
G-G-G-G-G grandparents: Benjamin Clanin and Mary Harris
G-G-G-G grandparents: Samuel Harris Clanin and Hannah Covell
G-G-G grandparents: Samuel Clanin and Susanna Duffield
G-G grandparents: Hannah Clanin and Albert Davis
G-grandparents: Susannah (Anna) Davis and Benjamin Myers
My great grandparents (Anna and Ben) moved to the Great White North as many of you, our southern neighbours, call it and to this date all of their descendants still live in Canada. These two had only one child, but have 8 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, approx. 40 great-great-grandchildren, and approx. 5 great-great-great grandchildren.
I would love to hear more about the Clanins. I recently only found out I was a Clanin and so know very little about the family, except what Jim as sent to me.
Hope to hear from you all soon,
Lawrna (pronounced Lorna, my parents had to be unique!!!!)
Lawrna and all,
In reference to the number of Clanin descendants, it's not close
to the number of Smith, Brown, Powell, Green etc. descendants. Yet,
yes there are a lot of descendants when you consider that most, as far
as we can ascertain, are descended from one Clanin, namely
Samuel Harris Clanin and Hannah Covel. Benjamin and Mary had
two sons and two daughters. Benjamin II and Samuel Harris Clanin.
Benjamin II and Mary Rolfe had one son, Samuel who had no
sons and two daughters who never married. Benjamin II also
had a daughter with wife Susanna Davis. She married a Cook
and I have no record of children but there could have been. Of the
daughters of Benjamin, Mary married John Hidden and there were
children. Sarah (Sally) married a Ralph Nailor, no info here. Then
she married Jonathan Munger and they had children but I have
little info about them. So this takes us back to Samuel Harris Clanin
where the bulk of the descendants are from.
Consider that Samuel Harris and Hannah were married in
1802 in Wood Co., WV (VA at the time). He was 23 and she was
12 or 13. This age is taken from her age in the 1850 IN census
when she lived with son Thompson. She is listed as 60 yrs old,
thus born ca. 1890. They had 8 sons and 4 daughters all of whom
lived and had families of their own. It was unusual for a family to
have 12 children and all of them live. Samuel was probably
never a wealthy man. It is obvious that they moved quite often,
even if it was from one side of the Ohio River to the other. Samuel
had letters in the post office in Cincinnati in 1806 and 1807. Mrs.
Hannah Clanin had a letter in 1815. So they must have been in
the area somewhere. They are in Clermont Co., OH in the 1820
and 1830 census. Alfred was born in KY in 1811 and Isaac in 1817.
Edward and Reuben were born in OH 1813 and 1814 and the rest
in OH. Why Alfred and Isaac were born in KY is anyones guess.
Remember that Samuel Harris was trained as a tin and copper
smith. On 17 June1830, Samuel sold 9 and a half acres of land,
on the waters of nine mile creek, in Clermont Co., OH, for the sum
of seventy-five dollars. There is no record of the purchase of this land.
On. Oct. 10, 1833, Samuel H. Clanin was commissioned a Justice
of the Peace in Crawford Co., IN. This is the same county where
John married Matilda Parker in 1829. They were back in OH around
1837 where he rented land from his sister Sarah (Sally) Clanin
Munger for which he payed her $50 for 1 year. He died on this
property in 1841. Not bad for a boy whose mother died probably
at his birth, whose father was a British prisoner probably till
his death in 1783. Samuel was 4 at this time. He then was
raised by his mother's brother Edward Harris in Newburyport, MA
and Mason Co., KY.
I am returning your email thru the CLANIN Mail List for the
benefit of all.
Lawrna would you, for the benefit of the other list subscribers,
give
your connection to the Clanin family and a little about yourself.
Cousin Jim.

Hello Jim,
Thank you for allowing me to be on your list server, that was quite nice of
you. I hope Charolette signs up as well. I know that sometimes when I
write to her at the yahoo.com address she does not get the message, so
usually I use her aol.com one just in case you have trouble contacting her.
You mentioned that there are not many Clanin descendants, what happened to
them all? It seemed to be quite a large family. I know for Susannah Davis
(my great grandmother), the daughter of Hannah Clanin and Albert Davis, she
has about 75-80 descendants. Not bad when you consider she only had one
child.

Received this 03/02/2000 10:55 PM from Lawrna Myers.
Hello James,
I recently came across your web site on the descendants of
Benjamin Clanin. I was very intrigued to see the name of my
great-great grandmother listed on this list. Her name was
Hannah Clanin, daughter of Samuel Clanin and Susanna
Duffield. She married Albert Davis. Her daughter, Susanna
(or Anna as you have it) is my great grandmother.
I would love to talk to you more about this family line. I have a
little information on Hannah and Albert's children.
Thank you, Lawrna Myers mmyers(a)junction.net

Hannah and Albert in Feb and I gave her what I had on them. I don't
