Just to say that McClellan/d is not of Dutch origin, but Irish/Scottish.
MacLellan, McLellan, and variants, a surname of Irish and Scottish origin.
The name is an Anglicisation of the Scottish Gaelic Mac Gille Fhaolain, and the Irish Gaelic Mac Giolla Fhaoláin, which meant "son of the servant of (Saint) Faolán".
So more Irish roots for you to discover :o)
Is it possibly that Anna is the daughter of John Blackford and his first wife?
Could she have been born to a family member of Gertrude, who passed away and Gertrude took her in?
Could age have been given incorrectly (often noted on English census due to people not actually knowing their exact age or wishing to appear older/younger).

My Great Grandma is Anna Clancy (that is her married name). I found her marriage certificate, and her parents are listed as JF Blackford and Liddy Harvard. So, I figure that Blackford must be her maiden name.

However when I look up Anna Blackford, I only find one Census. Her mother is listed as Gertrude (Gurtie) Blackford, and her step-father is listed as John Frank Blackford. Anna was born a few years before Gertrude and John were married - when Gertrude was about 14 years old!

>From Baptism records, of other children, it looks like Gertrude's maiden name is McClelland. Family oral history dictates that this branch is Pennsylvania Dutch.
So, the question is: Who is Anna Clancy's Mom? Liddy Harvard or Gertrude McClelland? If Liddy, what happened to her? If Gertrude, who was the original father and why was she pregnant at such a young age?
Any help will be appreciated! ~Rene

I've been told that my 3 x great grandfather Clancy went to America leaving 12 children behind him in the Piltown area of County Kilkenny. He settled in Florida, remarried and had another approx. 13 children! I think his first name was Patrick.
My 2 x great grandfather was born c. 1850, so his father mustn't have left Ireland until the 2nd half of the 1800's.
Does this story sound familiar to anyone?

Hi,
Did your John Clancy ever live in Olean, NY? MY great grandfather and grandmother lived in Olean. They had several children including; William, Edward, Marie and Wilfred. Edward married Lottie Simons and they had Charles Edward and Gerald Clancy. Charles (Chuck) was my father. I sure hope this connects. mkteacher(a)aol.com
