Bernard Clancy of Uragh was my Great Grandfather William Clancy's Son. Brother to my Grandfather Hugh Clancy. So exciting!! Thank you for the great pictures. I know we have a Terence Clancy somewhere in the family. He is mentioned as an Uncle and also a Lawrence and Rose Clancy who I found in the Tilthe App.

What are your great grandparents names? My Great Grandfather was William Clancy who lived in Uragh, in the parish of Rossinver. I am looking for any of his brothers and sisters and their names. I can't find any of them. He married Catherine Gallagher (Gallaher) in 1862 in Kinlough. It was a civil marriage.

Do you have a Patrick Henry Clancy or a Henry Patrick Clancy born around 1865? Ubeknownst to us, until recently, he had many siblings. He grew up in Mass. and his parents came from Ireland.

I've gone through my gravestone pictures and will be emailing some to you both. I do have Clancys in both graveyards after all.
Cloonty, Leitrim as I said is almost surrounded by Sligo. Moneylahan is about 2 miles south southwest and along the way is an old graveyard "Keelogues" with a Catholic church ruin. The 'new' Catholic church is over toward Kinlough and was built about 1860. That newer church has no graveyard on site. Kinlough is all of 4 miles east of Cloonty and there is at least one graveyard along that route that seems newer.
That area is swarming with McGowans, Connollys, Gallaghers, Gilmartins, Gillespes and quite a few Clancys, McNultys and McSherrys. If you work with the Griffiths valuation study done there in 1857 you will see the shared leasing of land among these names (almost always means family), and that the land being worked can be in either Leitrim or Sligo, as are their houses. There is civil parish of Rossinver in both counties, with Sligo's Ahamlish parish running along the coast. The Catholic parish for the whole area is Kinlough, diocese of Kilmore. Kinlough Catholic parish has baptism records starting 1835 and marriages starting 1840.
Leitrim townlands in this area include Cloonty, Tawly & Uragh, Sligo townlands include Gorteen, Gortnahoula, Keeloges, Hollyfield, Curraghmore, Clooerco, Moneylahan and others. Helps to think of it as one area bounded by the coasal townlands to the north and the mountain Ben Bulben to the south - there is really no option for movement other than east-west in this narrow strip between mountain and coast. It is only maybe 5 miles long by 2 miles. Very walkable, so you have to figure folks moved between the 2 counties.
I'd stay open to both Leitrim and Sligo for graves and records for your ancesters from that area.
I have two Clancy stones in the old Keelouges graveyard toward Moneylahan.
WILLIAM CLANCY of Gurteen died 1911, wife Bridget, Owen, John, Mary Ann, Willie
MICHAEL CLANCY of Cloonty died 1987 and his wife Bridget.
>From the graveyard toward Kinlough:
BERNARD CLANCY of Uragh died 1976 at 82 and wife Bridget.
THADY CLANCY of Augharrow died 1955 at 70, wife Kate, Barney and Michael J.P.
PATRICK TERENCE CLANCY died 1947, son Bernard, SIL Annie Harte, Kevin
PATRICK CLANCY died 1952 at 89, wife Annie, erected by son James
I will send you the photos. I unfortunately had my notes and dictation records stolen, so I don't have specifics like stone placements or my efforts to read the hard ones. I don't even have the name of the "new" church or the second graveyard. I'll just have to go back and do it again!

I am not sure. I know my Greatgrandparents are supposed to be from Kinlough. My wife had been to one of the centers and they came up with a marriage in Kinlough around 1856. I need to do some more checking. My Grandfather came to the states in 1883, born 1870. I was in Belfast in December and was going to go the Public Records on NI (PRONI) as the civil parish records are there. I will have someone go shortly. I have a relative in NI for study. I was in Kinlough for a couple of hours 5 years ago. Need to go back in the warm weather. Both visit have been in December.

Wow, thanks for the great info. I found Raspberry Hill in Sligo on an old map in Moneylahan. I was told that my great great grandgather came from there, a few miles inland between Grange and Cliffoney. He had a son also named William Clancy that married into the Gallagher family in Leitrim. Her name was Catherine Gallagher. They are listed in the 1901 census with their children William, Daniel, John, Margaret, and Hugh. Hugh clancy was my grandfather. I was told that we have Connolly's in our family tree but I don't know where they fit in yet. you can email me at paulinefamily(a)aol.com

Your people may be from Leitrim, not Sligo.
My ancesters (Connolly) are from Cloonty townland in Leitrim. Cloonty is a little knob of Leitrim that sticks into County Sligo; it is almost surrounded by Sligo. It is about a mile inland from Cliffoney right at the base of Ben Bulben. Cloonty isn't a town at all, just a crossroads with no buildings. Beautiful area. With - surprise - lots of rasberry bushes.
Right near there is an very old cemetery and church ruin where I think I found my Connolly ancester's grave. The stone says only "Connolly family of Raspberry Hill". That was a stunner as we'd just been chowing the raspberries...
I've found no other reference to Raspberry Hill on old maps, etc.
Email me if you would like photos of the nearby new (1860)church, the graveyard and the area. I would have definitely not have missed a Clancy grave there as I have Clancys (from nearby Kinlough) in my tree as well.
