Brian,
I am not sure if we have the same family but much of it rings similar. I have a Patrick Clancy born March 1838 in Galway Ireland. Married a Bridget Flaherty, b 1843 ??? They had many children including a Patrick Henry Clancy, b 01/14/1879. They lived in South Boston and all of Patrick and Bridget's children were born i Boston. I am sure of the date o Patrick's birth because I just recently got his Civil War Pension claim records where he gave his date of birth. I have a copy of Patrick Henry's Draft record (WWI) with his birth date. If you have the marriage date correct and we have the same family maybe we could share>

You may want to check the USGen website for Iowa and Howard
county. There is a area there, I believe it is in Howard County, called Riley Ridge. There is a cemetary there with a lot of Riley's buried there. There is also a state census for 1856 that may also be of some use to you in your search.

I found that same obit on the Howard Co. GenWeb just last week! It confirmed Ellen's maiden name for me.
The PA connection definitely makes sense, since during the times that James actually appears in the census, he lists it as his birthplace. How were you able to identify Erie as the location?
Thanks for the great information! Let me know if there's anything I might be able to help you with.

I recently discovered that my relatives from the Minnesota area were the O'Hara side of my family. Michael Clancy immigrated to the US straight from Ireland, and his wife, Ann Riley came from New York. At some point the Riley's relocated to Iowa where Michael Clancy and Ann Riley met and married. I do not have the info aabout the time frame in which any of them arrived in Iowa.

I have found some additional information which I'm not real
sure of as to the accuracy but I will tell you what I have.
Bernard Clancy and his wife Jane were living in Erie, PA before moving to Iowa. According to what I have James was born in Erie,PA. approx. 1854. Peter F. whom was my great grandfather was born in IA in 1859.
There was a obit that I found for a John P. O'Brien listing a sister, Ellen Clancy of Minneapolis and brothers Wm. J. and C. J. also of Minneapolis and Richard of Eden Prairie, MN.

Hi,
I've been able to trace my line of "Clancy's" only as far back as the Clinton, Iowa, 1870 census. Michael Clancy from Ireland and Ann Riley from New York, were the parents of my great-grandmother Julia, who is listed as being 1 year old on that census. I don't have enough pertinent information to trace them any further back than that. I have no way of knowing if there is any connection to your Clancy's of Howard Co. Iowa, but there may be. Good luck on your research. If I can be of any further help let me know.

Russ,
I'm looking for information on the same Clancy family that appears in the 1880 US Census in Howard Co., IA. The neice, Ellen Clancy, that is listed in 1880 as aged two is my great-grandmother, who later married William Reid Stevenson. Her mother, Ellen (O'Brien) was born in Ontario, and was married to James Clancy, Peter's brother. James and his father (I believe named Bernard Clancy) do not appear with the rest of the family in 1880.
Have you been able to find any more information since the last post in this thread?
Thanks,
Marissa
