I'm trying to locate information about Jeremiah Clancy, who died in Morgan County, IL in 1887. I believe he emigrated from Ireland in about 1823 and was married to Margaret Walsh and/or Margaret Hegarty. He had a son named Joseph Michael Clancy (1870-1943) who lived in Jacksonville, IL. Especially interested in comfirming the name or his wife (or if he was married more than once). Thank you.

Hi Pat,
I have a few more details about my Clancy family. Mary Clancy had siblings Roseanne, b. about 1831, Thomas, b. about 1833, and as yet unconfirmed Catherine b. about 1835 and Patrick b. about 1837. Catherine appears on the 1851 census with the family as a 'visitor' and Patrick is a witness to the marriage of Roseanne. There were probably more syblings as there is a ten year gap between Mary and Roseanne.
Parents Thomas Clancy and Bridget m.s. Clancy were dead before 1856. The few records I have obtained all indicate that Bridget was indeed a Clancy before marriage.
Their son Thomas married a Rose Anne Ward and named one of his children Charles. So it could well be a family name, as I see you also mentioned it.
The evidence I have for my Clancy family coming from Barr of Farrow is the birth registration of Mary Clancy O'Brien's daughter Catherine, born 1862 in Glasgow, where the place of marriage heris recorded.
In Scotland, their name appears as Glancy quite a lot of the time. You might be interested to know that in 1881 census there is a Lackey Glancy, dock labourer, aged 40 in Bo'ness, Lithingow, Scotland. It looks like he is in a boarding house. He does not appear to have married or died in Scotland however, unless Lackey is short for Lachlan or Lawrence.
So that is all I have for now. I would be happy to share information. Please feel free to email me.
Jacky
