Interested in locating anyone who would have information about John T. Clancy, b 1824 in Ireland (possibly County Mayo), and his family. John and his sons were butchers in Detroit. John's first wife was Catherine Crowley, and he had a second wife named Eleanor (Ellen) Grearey. I have more information, and would be happy to share, if anyone is interested.

Pat, It is my understanding that the Clancy's are from Glenfarne in Lietrim. A cousin visits Ireland often and said that our family attended St. Michael's church. I can't prove any of that yet but I am hoping to soon.
What I do know is that Margaret Clancy was from Lietrim and she had several brothers and sisters, all with very common names. So proving who is who can be difficult. All of our names and dates seem to be working so if we work at it we may prove a connection. Do you know to whom Thomas Clancy married??? Was it Catherine? I have the death certificates for the Margaret and Thomas Clancy(Jr.), one says their father is Thomas and one says James. Since they died 10 years apart I went with the earliest information, James, but it could be wrong. Do you know when your Lackey came to the US and where in Boston he lived?
Keep in touch, Nancy

I had a long response but it was erased when I signed in so here's the short version.
I have Clancy's from Lietrim as well. According to family Lore my ggrandmother was brought to the US in 1885 by her Aunt Anne who was the wife of her uncle Lackey Clancy. I have a deed to Holy Cross cemetery in the name of Lackey Clancy, purchased in 1873. Buried there are Mary Clancy and Annie Smith.
My ggrandmother was Margaret whose parents were James or Thomas Clancy and Catherine Murphy.
Does this fit with what you have?

hello all,
am looking for a man by the name of Mathew Clancy born in County Cork. I am not exactly sure when he was born, but know he came to America in the early 1800's. He married a lady by the last name Devine. They ended up having four boys. They migrated up to Wisconsin, South Dakota & Iowa. I know that one of the boys headed west to Colorado due to the too much drinking in the family. Any info someone might have would be great. I know that there is not much info.
Thanks,
Nita
