Nancy,
Thank you for your efforts. I just found Mary's death notice and it spells her name as Glancy. It's so confusing because the church she went to spelled it Clancy. I don't know which is right. Now that I have the date of her death I am going to send away for the death certificate. I will let you know what it says. Thanks again,
Maureen

Maureen, I still don't know whether there is a connection. The Mary Clancy from my family was the sister of my great grandmother. I have information on Margaret and her brother Thomas but I don't know anything else about Mary. I spoke to my 85 year old aunt. She does not remember Mary Clancy and the name O'Pray is unfamiliar to her. She only remembers Thomas. Check for Mary's mothers name on the death certificate. If it is Catherine Murphy I think we are related. I only know about Mary and her other siblings because of a letter from a long deceased Aunt.
Sorry I couldn't help more

Yes, actually I just found her death notice yesterday at the Library of Congress. She died Wednesday January 23, 1935 and she was buried at St. Raymond's cemetary in Ny along with her late husband John O'Pray, her daughter Mabel and daughter Alice. Is there a connection?? :)

Hi, It sounds like you are my connection to Mary Clancy. I think the only way to know for sure would be to get her death certificate. Mary's mother's name was Catherine Murphy. I believe her father's name was James but I need confirmation. I will check with Holy Cross Cemetery, because several other family members were buried there. Keep in touch.
Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Where in Brooklyn did your CLANCY family live?
Ours were in the 21st - 25th St area. (8 Ward)
Timothy CLANCY born about 1835 in IRE.
married Ann HICKEY born about 1839 in IRE.
(I've assumed the marriage - haven't located it yet - but it should be before 1858)
They had 9 children born Bklyn in the years following 1858.
Mary Jane, Mathew, Margaret, Mickel, Katie, Ellen, John T, Annie & Agnes. None of the boys lived long enough to marry and have children - so the name ends in our line.

Hello,
I don't know if this is a match, but I am searching for relatives of Mary Clancy. She immigrated from Ireland to New York city about 1884, she married my great grandfather John O'Pray about 1892 and they had 7 children. I know she was born about 1870. I'm trying to find out who her family was but it is such a common name. Please let me know if this is a match. She lived in Manhattan according to the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census and I know she died 1934. Sincerely,
Maureen O'Pray

It is important that we only put the surnames that are actually included in the message into the surname box.
It is not a place to list all the surnames you are searching for.
The listing is used by the search engines - imagine if you were searching for CLANCY posts and got hits that had no information about CLANCY - except in the surname box.

As my Michael disappeared from the PA census sometime after 1850 he could have returned to Ireland and then, later, on to Australia. I realize it is stretch. My Michael was baptized September 11, 1831 at the Doora parish church (east of Ennis) in County Clare. His baptism sponsors were Patrick and Ann Halloran, relatives of his mother Ellen Halloran. Connection?
John
Dear John,
The Michael Clancy I am int3erested in was born about 1831 and arrived in Australia from England in 1855 on the Warren Hastings, so I don't think it is the same Michael. He married Ellen O'Neill (born about 1833) before they came to Australia and they had two children Cath born about 1854 and Patrick born about 1855 before they landed here. I think Patrick was born on board ship. There is little else I can tell you except they sailed from Middlesex England to come here. Let me know, please, if there is any connection.

Reading your mesage of 10 Feb 2000, I almost fell out of my chair. My great grandmother was Ellen Clancy who married Frank Fitzpatrick. Her parents were Thomas Clancy and Bridget Curtin. I believe they emmigrated to New York around 1854.
Please respond! Thanks, Gene Hickey
