In Butler Co. Pa. History on pg 451 James Boyd an old Irishman.
James is listed in 1803 Connoquessing Twp. Butler county Pa. 200 Acre 1 cow 260 value 78 tax
George Boyd is also listed with him 400 Acre 1 cow 1 horse 680 v 204 tax
William See Boyd came to Butler Co. Pa. about 1834 he had with his brother Henry N. Boyd a frame store. This would be at the diamond corner of Lot 24 of the original lots in the City of Butler. In 1864 a fire burned down all from the corner of Diamond Street to the lower end to the Vogely Alley. These buildings were called "so-called shanties". (At this period of history: what was a shanty in 1891 when the Butler Eagle was printing might not be considered as shanties by those living 40 to 60 years earlierpgh) The Eagle continues: This was Mr. William S. Boyd's first venture in Butler. With his brother Henry, until the latter died, he kept there a grocery and restaurant. He prospered rapidly in business and finally bought and removed his store down to corner of Main and Jefferson Streets, building there about 1850.
In another section of the 1891 Butler Eagle:
In 1845 William S. Boyd purchased the buildings on the corner of Main and Jefferson. He tore away the old buildings and erected a larger three storied brick building which he had ready for business in 1848. His family moved into part of it in 1849. It was the first 3 story building in Butler burning down in 1859. In 1861 he erected a two story building. Between 1848 and 1850 there were several persons associated with Mr. Boyd in the drug and grocery business on that corner. Samuel Marks deceased (brother of his wife Mary Emily Marks children of Isaac Marks b 1782 [mentioned in Butler Co History/Brown is a Samuel Marquis as having a tavern listed in the 1895 History as where the Arlington Hotel now is. The History does not give the date but he was followed by a Derr who had it till 1838. This was across the street down Main St. about ½ block from the Diamond and Main corner where Samuel Mark was in business with William Boyd. He was with him in 1848and moved with hi!
m to the Jefferson and Main St. corner. 1852 the late Mr. Albert G. Boyd was in partnership. Also Mr. Joseph Earhart and Mr. James Dunlap in 1861. His brother the late Henry N. Boyd did not accompany his brother when they left the Dougal corner. (corner of Diamond and Mainpgh) They left behind them at the Dougal corner some in the same drug and grocery business. Here the paper makes a correction on the earlier report that the business at this corner was grocery and restaurant. This last one was an error, should have been drug instead of restaurant. The error probably came from recollecting of Mr. Wm. S. Boyd inviting some friends into his store and furnishing them with "cheese and crackers". Butler Eagle 1891, newspaper Butler, Pa. (it does not say in this article but in the Butler Co. History 1895 it mentions that he had a dry goods store at the corner of Main and Jefferson St. for a quarter of a century.pgh)
In Butler at the Diamond and Main St. corner as owner of a Drug store was Charles N. Boyd. He came in the 1887 and had his drug store in the brick building that was built after the fire of 1864 destroyed the building that Wm. S. Boyd had formerly had a drug store and grocery. Charles N. (Newton) was the son of William S. Boyd b 1818 in Allegheny Co. Grandson of Rev. Abraham Boyd and great grandson of John and Mary Fulton Boyd. To date I have found no connection to the two families.
What is known as Springdale, or the First ward, lies in the southeastern part of the borough, and is an attractive district espescially for private residences. The Connoquenessing creek separates it from the older portion of the borough. As a suburb it was laid out in 1872 by William S. BOYD, who purchased a farm of 150 acres-which included the greater part of Springdale proper

I guess this is a good time to try again. Does anyone have a Frances or
> possibly Agnes Boyd born c 1750 who married William Park/Parke b 1743 in
> Chester Co Penn s/o John Parke and Elizabeth McKnight? She is listed by
> the DAR and Frances Boyd.
I am doing an in-depth study of the Boyds who came from South Carolina to
Meriwether County, GA in the 1820s and 1830s and how they may, or may not, have
been related. I have found two "core" families who were probably related but
there is as yet no conclusive proof as to exactly how. Those were the families
of Robert Boyd and Rosannah Stewart (mine) and John "Waggoner Jack" Boyd and
Nancy Chambers. Descendants of both settled in the same area of the county,
bought and sold land between them, at least one child of each married into the
same family (Tidwell), and both moved north to other counties about the same
time. Robert's children moved to Carroll and Waggoner Jack's son, James, moved to
north Fayette/Campbell (Campbell adjoined Carroll until 1870). A grandson of
Waggoner Jack, James Bell, son of Sarah Boyd and Thomas Bell, also moved to
However, I have come across several who don't fit into either family and
wonder of anyone has information on them. One is Milton Boyd and his wife Jane D
ouglas who appeared in Meriwether about 1834-1835. Milton's land was in the same
general area of Meriwether as the two core Boyd families (upper Ninth Dist.,
northeastern corner of the county) but was slightly farther south just
northeast of Gay. The other Boyds were in an area east of Haralson and Alvaton, near
the Pike County line, but still in the Upper Ninth Dist.
Milton also seemed to be the lone holdout, remaining in Meriwether after the
other Boyds had left in the late 1850s. The book, "A Historical Account of
Meriwether County, Georgia," mentions and shows a picture of "The old Joe Boyd
place" near Gay, which is probably the residence of Milton's son, Joseph. That
and another photo are the only references to Boyds in the book. I wondered why
they were not mentioned, and then discovered the reason. In 1830 there were 5
families with the surname Boyd; in 1840 there were 11; in 1850 there were 9;
in 1860 there were 3 (Milton and two others); in 1870 there was 1; and in 1880
there were no caucasian Boyds at all. I guess no one writing history books in
the late 1800s and early 1900s remembered them.
A vignette of a Milton Boyd of Meriwether county is given in the book,
“Pioneers of Meriwether County, Georgia,” compiled by Clare Isanhour in 1991 from
reports in the Meriwether Vindicator. It states that Milton came from South
Carolina, had a large, prosperous and neatly-kept farm near Greenville and
married a Miss Douglas. His sons were William and Joseph, who moved to Griffin, and
surviving daughters at the time of the report (1904) were “Mrs. William Sasser
and Mrs. Dr. McCrary.” The 1850 census shows that Milton was born about 1804
in S.C. and came to Georgia between 1834 and 1835. His wife is Jane, also born
about 1804. A daughter in the 1850 census is shown age 16, born in S.C. The n
ext daughter, Mary E., age 15, was born in GA, indicating a move to Georgia
about 1834-1835. Other children shown that year are John W., 13, and Joseph D.
10, both born in GA. Living next door to Milton are Robert Douglas, 29, and
Margaret Douglas, 78, both born in S.C., who are no doubt relatives of Jane
Douglas Boyd, Milton’s wife.
It is interesting to note that Robert and Rosannah Boyd’s son, Joseph, had a
son named Milton Boyd which may or may not indicate a relationship between
this Milton and my Robert.
I have not been able to find any information on Milton in family trees or
other records online (not even with Google). Does anyone have information on him,
who his parents may have been, or where in South Carolina he came from? I
still need to do more research at the Meriwether courthouse, but I was hoping
someone might give me a jump start. There are several more I question besides
Milton, but he seemed to be a good place to start.
Many thanks for any information,
