I have some information on the Clampitt lines in Texas and in Louisiana. My
late
] brother-in-law, Richard Roy Clampitt, son of Roy Justin Clampitt and Lutie
Pauline
Felt (originally Felch in New England), was born in New Providence, Hardin
County,
Iowa, in 1925. I have traced his ancestry back to Delaware in the late 1600s
and
a Clampett in Connecticut has information on Clampitts in Boston area
earlier, who
went to New Jersey and then into Mispillion Hundred area of Delaware.
Richard
Clampitt who married Diana Pratt and 2) Elizabeth Masten and had children by
both wives, moved to North Carolina near Kernersville, and is buried in a
Quaker
Burying Ground near here. He died in 1820. I know that some of Richard's
kin
moved West into TN and some on to Louisiana and into Kansas and Texas and
Colorado. I do not recognize John Larkin Clampitt but suspect the Larkin is
a
family surname. I am not sure what sources you have checked, like Civil War
records? Census? Do you have a branch of the LDS Family History Center near
you? You can access wonderful records from Salt Lake City via them. Also
they
have a web site, as you undoubtedly know. I would guess that Nonnie is a
shortened
name--familiar name for something more formal, but off hand I do not remember
what. Just as Polly is a nickname for Mary. Right now, I am swamped with
year
end committee stuff but feel free to e-mail me if you like. I probably will
be slow
to answer! There was a Nathan Clampitt in TN and others were in Illinois.
The
name is English and comes from cloam pit or clay pit. Sincerely, Pauline R.

Hi! I am new to this list. Need to find info on my grandmother. Her name
is Margaret (Maggie) Anise Clampit. She was born on May 16 1880 in Columbus,
TX Colorado Co.
Her parents name according to her family bible is John Larkin Clampit
(1837-1903) and Nonnie C Lankford (1850-1932). I think they were from
Yoakum, Lavaca Co., TX. John Larkin Clampit was born on Oct 10 1837 in
Tenn?. He served under General Cheatum from 1861-1865
Has anyone got any info on Margaret or Maggie Clampit and her father John
Larkin Clampit??? I am at a dead-end
