Anyone interested in the U.S. Department of State's "Report of the Death of an American Citizen" for Mrs. Caroline Griffin Clair (husband - John David Clair), please contact me so I can conduct research to locate the record. Mrs Clair died in Cuba on August 20, 1936.

I have read most of the posts here and guess I come from a whole different branch of Clairs. We've traced back to Joseph Clair, b. 1837 d.1888 born in St. Mary (now Marieville) Quebec. He moved to Stowe Vermont at age 10. Later, he married Theodosia (Munn) Clair and they had several children - Joseph Fremont, Emma, Luceba and others.
Everything forward from him, we pretty much have nailed down. But zero BEFORE him. His son, Joseph Fremont Clair (later Claire, thanks to grandma who added the "e") was my grandfather. One Joseph F's three sons, Carl Claire b. 1908 d.1975 was my father. Family lore says the family is originally from France, but we have been able to obtain no proof, and we believe there was a generation or two in Canada prior to Joseph/1837 above.
I am processing recently received information from the Stowe Genealogical group, and perhaps some clues there. Film at 11:00.
